Cabrera: The next Pujols?

I think Cabrera will eventually have a better career. Puhols looks like he's 35 already with maybe 3 or 4 good years left, Cabrera looks like he still has 6-8 good years left.

You might be right. I think P's in the decline. Might not show for 2-3 years, but I think Anaheim is going to have a problem with that contract sooner rather than later.

Next Pujols? Miguel has his own skill set. He's been better offensively the past two years. You shouldn't strive to be Phat Albert but strive to be Miguel Cabrera.

Pujols has one of the best if not the best start ever to a career 11 years.
Cabrera has one of the best starts ever after 8 years.

Pujols seems to be more of a Pull hitter.
Cabrera has more of a hit to all fields type power.
Cabrera maybe from watching him more is more of a hitter with lots of power than pujols who is a bit more of a power hitter than hitter.

Pujols has had a bit more home run power than Cabrera.
Miguel has yet to have a 40+ homer season.

As said, Pujols is going to start a decline soon, as he gets into his 30's.
Cabrera still in his prime, with a few more years like 2010/2011, although as he gets to his early 30's I am concerned with the weight he carries. Alot of players with the bit of extra weight lose their edge/hitting prowess a couple to a few years sooner than other great players who have a gradual decline from greatness to excellence.

Pujols is the best of the past 11 years, Cabrera is arguably the best of the past 8.
I think we see more great years from Cabrera going forward than Pujols will have.

Good point about the weight. I saw the highlites from the 03 series recently and he was a beanpole compared to today. He's not into Prince Fielder territory, but it is something to watch. Prince is another one. I'd be leary of signing him long term b./c of the weight.

Like others said, completely different hitters.
Pujols obviously has the edge in power, and I think he also has far more rbi, and over his career so far has a better walk rate. Pujols has also played better defense at 1B than Cabrera according to most defensive metrics.
Cabrera generally hits for a better average, but let's not forget that Pujols has also had some awesome years from a BA standpoint.

Overall, at least to this point, Pujols has been a better player by a decent margin.

That said, I'll take Cabrera over Pujols going forward all day every day.

All due respect...but Pujols has had a significantly better past 8 years than Cabrera.

Miggy: .317 265 HR and +/- .950 OPS
Pujols: .331 331 HR and +/- 1.050 OPS

I don't think it is arguable at all. Going forward I would take Miggy 100% but over the past 8 years it is Pujols hands down.
