Cap no going anywhere anytime soon

letting teams know this far in advance is good....Lions will be fine.

Avril, LoJack, SLH, C Williams, Levy, Durant, Delmas, Houston, Lacey, and A Smith all UFA. Berry, Spivey, and Young all RFA. $100 mil already committed to next year. Should be fun.

It's easier to just list off who ISN'T a FA (KVB, Suh, Fairley, Tulloch).

Just have to extend Stafford and Suh at the right time when we need them lower. Calvin doesn't jump until 2015. Lots of free agents next year though Delmas, Houston(worried about Brandon Carr and Finnegan deals) Durant, Avril(if franchise stays), Lawrence Jackson, Gosder(gone),Corey Williams(probably gone unless he comes back on a cheaper contract), Hanson. Raiola,KVB and Burlesons salary jump up enough where we should make them take a pay cut or cut them if their production drops alot this year.

Forgot Levy and Sammiee Lee Hill.

All those expired contracts give us a ton of space but the Lions need to pick and choose wisely who will be back and draft well.

About $20 million in space. Definitely not enough for all of them. Cutting some vets might be necessary.

Mayhew can draft BPA this year. Just about every position on defense will be a need. Who they draft this year and how they look will help determine who gets re-signed.

Last year for Raiola,KVB(cut),Corey Williams, Gosder and Hanson unless they take big pay cuts on their next contract and maybe Burleson(6 million cap number next year). Out with the old and average other than Corey Williams.

You draft DE or CB in round one this year and that allows you to drop Houston or Avril next year. Burlesons 2 spot will be given to Young. Williams no longer has value on this team. KVB they wikll give the option to take a serious pay cut to stay on the roster. Levy can be replaced by a 3-5th rd LB now that hes solely a OLB. Gosder should have been replaced 2 years ago.

Delmas is the only serious guy to worry about in that list.

SLH? Justin Durant?

I don't think Burleson gets cut next year. This team MUST have 3 really good WRs at all times, and cutting Nate causes a decent-sized cap hit since he restructured this year.

Regardless, there's this thing called depth, and the Lions won't have much of it unless they get several draft picks ready to contribute significantly in 2013.

Durant and SHL are important too. And Lo Jack is we lose Avril while the drafted DE develops. Williams is still the starter. It's up to Fairley to step up this year. That is the plan but Williams really helps Suh. Suhs' monster year, Williams was having a monster year. Up to Fairley right now.

Burleson will count 6 million towards the cap or be 3.1 million in dead cap money(unless he's a June 1st cut then it will be half that spread over 2 years). You could get a rookie WR(Round 2 or 3) 2013 draft to replace Burleson. This is Burlesons last year. No way he's worth 6 million cap number with the other large numbers Lions have and he can't restructure two years in a row.

ya...I dont see Nate back either . Titus should evolve into that #2 spot by then.

Is he worth $2.9 million? Right now, I think he is. He might not be after another year though. We'll see.

There are plenty of ways to deal with it. Mayhew will draft BPA because almost every position has needs beyond next year. The spots that don't get drafted this year, those guys are more likely to be re-signed next year IMO.

some tough decision are going to be made...you cant keep everyone.

gotta trust your draft this year and next year especially teams like the Lions who are on a fine line with the cap.

Depends how much that 2.9 million is needed for other guys(especially early with Stafford and Suh with giant numbers) and if the Lions think they can replace Burleson in the 2013 draft.

Big year for Burleson and KVB and Corey Williams to prove they should stick around. Gosder and Raiola I hope are done after this year. Sick of the terrible run blocking and inconsistent pass blocking from Gosder. Both are Millen gems. Peterman staying cheap(his cap number actually goes down in his final year) may save him.

Decisions will have to be made though.

Durant is important yes...i forgot to mention him. SLH is currently the 4th DT on our depth chart....his value is debatable. You offer him 2-3 mil to stay on as your 3rd guy after you cut CW....if not...bye bye.

Corey Williams and Sammie Lee Hill are the two best run defenders on the Dline. And like I said CW had a monster year when Suh had a monster year. Suh wasn't that great and Avil/KVB were atrocious in run D. They both still have value going forward and Lee Hill is a young talent. Burleson is more easily replaced IMO. CW depends on Fairleys development. And you are down to just Fairley and Suh if they say goodbye to Hill and CW in a system that rotates heavily. And I don't think you want to draft another DT early.

Raiola,CW,KVB,Burleson,Hanson,Gosder and maybe Levy depending on his play this year have the highest probabilities of getting the axe. Plus you got Backus old as ever but still solid. But maybe they can squeeze two years out of Backus(one at LT and one at RT if they draft a LT this draft) They need to figure out Suh(18 million) and Stafford (20 million) because you can't resturcture forever like they did this year.
