So what do you guys think Chris Houston and Louis Delmas are worth on the open market?

Brandon Carr got a 5 year 50 million dollar deal with 10 million signing bonus.

Eric Wright got 5 year 37.5 million.

Houston worth somewhere in between?

Louis Delmas

Michael Griffen got 5 year 35 million with 9 Signing bonus

Tyvon Branch got 4 year 26.6 million

Delmas worth around Branch or more or even less due to injuries?

Fuck the Bucs for giving Eric Wright that fuckin contract. Set the bar WAY too high for his talent level. I think Houston is worth Wrights deal....but not Carrs. Right in between sounds right.....5 year 40 million 9-10 guaranteed....though I don't think he deserves more than what Wright got.

Delmas won't get Branch money. Not with his injury history. Not only that, but he won't get those kind of years. I'd franchise Delmas....unless a VERY team friendly long term deal can be struck.

Joseph is better and got 8 mil/yr. Fair market numbers shouldnt include teams that overpaid for contracts in order to hit their cap quotas. Houston doesnt deserve a dime over 7 mil imo. If he wants more than that id just look into signing a guy like DRC for right about 7-8 mil.

Delmas is a tough one cause you have the injury history to factor into. Anything over 5 mil a yr would be a deal breaker for me.

7 to 8 mil would be ideal to bring him back because I don't see him coming back for any less.

I think the best comparison would be Carlos Rogers. Despite his 5 INTs last year, Houston has NOT created many turnovers in his career. Like Rogers, he's a quality cover corner with shaky hands who can knock down passes, but won't come down with a 50-50 ball. Rogers as well is ideal as a #2 who does his job well but doesn't scare QBs into throwing away from him. Rogers just got 4 years 31 million.

Houston is younger than Rogers, so give him the extra year and make it a clean 5/40.

franchise Delmas ??? with his injury history...not a chance in hell

Mayhew said he wasn't using the tag this year. I don't blame him.

Give Delmas an incentive laden 2 year deal.

he fucked up using the tag last year. >:D

Avril had a good year in 2011. I understand you don't want to lose him and Mayhew thought he could negotiate. Just be thankful Avril didn't take the long term deal they offered. Now we know more about Avril and can let him test the market and probably not get paid what he thinks he's worth.

thats cause hes assuming he wont have to because he wants to get deals done. Im telling you that avril debacle sits with people in the locker room. MM didnt come thru and do what he said he would. MM fucked up wehn he didnt sign avril to an extension the year prior to the tag...and he paid the price. More than likely Houston will be getting the tag this year of he cant come to terms. Id rather see him get it than delmas. Avril can take his 8 mil a yr or take off.

It probably didn't sit well with others but its not like MM didn't try to get a multi year contract done, avril just wanted more money and MM didn't feel he was worth it. MM was right, if he would have given him what he wanted this team would be worse because of it.

that was last year....i was talking about the year before. Avril wanted an extension. MM said prove it on the field and ill pay you. Avril had a monster season....MM didnt pay him. MM should have extended him when he wanted less money....now he put his foot in his own mouth and isnt ponying up.

Avril was offered a deal and I'm very glad he didn't take the 3 year 30 million offer or whatever it was because he didn't play up to those standards. You act like there was zero negotiation before Avril was franchised or even after he was franchised by Mayhew. Avril thought he was worth more, he'll hit the market and the GMS will look at his run defense tape and his inconsistent pass rush other than 2011 for sacks/hits/hurries in total while facing RTs one on one and he won't get what he thinks he's worth. Avril won't get the 10 million he thinks he deserved, he gambled on himself and lost though the back injury didn't help him Week 4 and on. The franchise was the right call IMO right now because Avril was way too inconsistent this year.

Tag is way too big for a CB and too big for 6 million for Delmas who can't stay healthy. Therefore there are no tags worth being used and Mayhew knows that thankfully. Avril was worth the money last year coming off a good 2011 season. You don't let someone coming off a season like that just hit the market. But now we have more information and Avril and his reduced market value can hit the market. Lions get the best deal out of it IMO as Avril may have to come crawling back with his tail between his legs without the big offer he thought he would get. Just like Tulloch did last year. And even Chris Houston in 2011.

The good news though looking at Brandon Carr's contract, he got 5 year 50 million with 10 million signing bonus. They backloaded and his cap number was only 3.1 million the first year. That means we can fit Houston, he'll be happy with a 10 million signing bonus. But most likely Houston is not worth as much as Brandon Carr. 5 year 40 million as suggested would be more fitting and better for the Lions.

It was a no brainer to keep Avril on the restricted tender in 2011. The Lions had bigger fish to fry in adding Wright, keeping Houston and adding Tulloch and Durant. Plus with the strike, way less negotiation time. I believe in order to do that in 2011 the Lions had to restructure Stafford(the 1st time), KVB(the 1st time) and maybe even Calvin.

And Mayhew lived up to his offer, he did offer Avril long term deals. The problem was Avril over valued himself so he got stuck with 10.6 million. Boo hoo 10.6 million for one year. 10.6 million for one year is the right value for his 2011 season, but 10 million for 3 years was in question and that question was answered this year by Avril not performing. I think you would be pretty upset hughes if Mayhew gave Avril 10 million average for 3 years and Avril played like a very average pass rushing DE in 2012.

5/40 seems a perfectly reasonable value for Houston. Houston is entirely comparable to Carlos Rogers, who actually makes slightly less than 8 per year.

Yes i would be upset with 3 yrs 30 mil. Im assuming avril wanted much less than that in 2010 when he wanted to be extended and prior to his good year.

Avril isn't getting 30 million guaranteed...not with Suh and Stafford needing to be signed and the cap not going up for at least 2 more years.
