Get StartedThat is what I would have thought is a pretty good record.
Get the odds of the Red Wings making the playoffs is about 15%.
This is a little weird.
Both Carolina and Detroit have winning and pretty similar records.
Yet Carolina is given a 95% chance of making the playoffs as opposed to Detroit to 15% chance.
What am I missing?
What teams are between them in the standings?
Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, New York, and also the other New York.
That?s it.
So how does that account for the literal 80% discrepancy between the chances of the two making the playoffs?
Something seems off.
It should be based on the fact Carolina had 116 points last season.
Why?
Do they carry over?
Yes, they do.
This is a little weird.

What am I missing?
Last year?s points carry over?
Well, that doesn?t seem fair.
Carolina on a pace to get to 109 points.
Red Wings on a pace to get to 97 points (up from 74).
97 points made/would have made the post season in both conferences last season.
