Cassius Winston

12 first qtr points. He's just slicing right through double and triple teams and getting right to the basket for layup after layup. He's gonna open so much up for our offense.

Most of what I've read about him is that he's not super athletic, but has a good head for the game and is a good shooter. It will be interesting to see if he's able to get to the basket regularly against major college competition.

22 pts at the half. I only saw him miss 1 shot. Probably 5 assists to go with that.

He spent most of the 2nd half just getting teammates involved so he didn't shoot much. Finished with 31 pts and 10 assists I believe. Hell of a performance.

Like his game offensively, great off the dribble and sees the court better than Denzel did at that age. The knock against him is lack of athleticism and not being a great shooter. Hell need to improve a lot on d to pass the izzo litmus test.

Never heard someone that shoots 40% from 3 and 80% from the line have his shooting questioned before.

I don't buy the athleticism stuff at point. Yogi Ferrell isn't that athletic and it was never a problem. Cleaves was strong as hell, but couldn't out jump my grandmother.

Also, defense? Really? Who in the backcourt played any defense in their last game?

are those his season averages or single game? if there for the season, that's plenty good for a point guard, in my humble opinion. If not, maybe he had a Middle Tennessee night tonight, but still, how bad can his season numbers be if he's capable of having a night like that on the biggest stage yet for him?

Haven't checked his stat line but I was basing that off scouting reports from guys on the AAU circuit. the book on him is that he has the best court vision than any incoming freshman since magic, better than denzel. he will underwhelm you with his athleticism and shooting. I'm sure a lot of people will knock him for those things next year but I really like his game overall. Also, i listened to his post game presser today, really, really humble kid. comes from a great family, smart kid, had a stanford offer.

The book on him from his own coach is that he won't wow with athleticism but has the court vision and IS a good (perhaps good, not great) shooter. Sometimes the ability to make shots doesn't immediately translate to college for various reasons (adjusting to faster, more physical play, confidence).

At any rate he'll be light years ahead of Tum Tum there as a threat.

Winston was impressive, he plays totally under control and shows just enough quickness. Not a great athlete, but good enough to be a great PG in college. Has the basketball IQ if a Denzel, he sees the whole court and knows exactly where and when to pass the ball. 84% from the line, 43.5% from 3, he's going to be a scorer. Defense is his biggest weakness right now. I see a kid who should average 7 points and 4 or 5 assists as a freshman. If he develops he could push All Big Ten as a sophomore. And he's going to be fun to watch leading the break with Bridges and Langford on his wings.

Don't think he will score that many as a frosh. He will at best split time with Tum Tum, and there will be such a logjam at the 2 and 3 (esp if we can still land You Know Who), that McQuaid and/or Harris might still see a bit of time at the 1.
