reportedly the total deal is for 5 years and 122 million.

The total deal is for five years and $122 million, which is instead of the four years and $92 million remaining on his original contract, a source familiar the negotiations told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. Sabathia, 31, will be paid $25 million in 2016, which is the final year of the new contract, the source said. The deal contains a vesting option for $25 million in 2017 with a $5-million buyout solely on the condition of his shoulder, according to the source, since the Yankees have some concern about a pre-condition in Sabathia's shoulder. Sabathia will qualify for the vesting option as long as he spends less than 45 days on the disabled list with a shoulder injury in 2016.

In the end, the Yankees added one year and $30 million to Sabathia's contract to avoid the opt-out clause.

Sabathia also retains a hotel suite on trips, a no-trade provision and the right to buy tickets.

30 milion should cover 2 years of groceries...if he clips coupons.

Latrell Sprewell approves this.

It seems like he would be better off without that final year. So he will be one year older looking for his last big contract now. Kind of short sighted, and it makes him look greedy. At least he can sleep at night knowing that he can feed his family. Let's hope that Fielder gets enough money next, so that his family won't starve.

He doesn't look greedy IMO. He said he loves NY, his family loves NY and he wanted to retire a Yankee. Said it was ALWAYS about years. He knew he was going to get top dollar wherever he went but wanted to know he was going to stay put in NY for the long haul. IMO he probably could have asked the Yankees for more.

More Double Cheeseburgers in a weekend than I eat in a year.
aka c.c. = Captain Cheeseburger.
Still a great pitcher.

He did opt out for more money. That is greedy

If someone offered the same money and a free lifetime supply of cheeseburgers, he would have went there. He doesn't care about NY outside maybe winning games by giving up 6-7 runs.

he opted out for more years, the money is just a given. Why is it greedy? The Yankees shouldn't have given him a clause to opt out. If your situation was "This is your salary for 7 years, you HAVE to work here no matter what but in the 4th year if you're unhappy and want to leave or restructure a deal you can." Since that deal was done you have been one of the best in the country in your field and know you can go somewhere else to be paid more or the company your with will pay you more and extend that contract to 10 years to let you know you'll be earning that big money even longer...what would you do...no need to reply I know what you'd do. you're human.
