A bit surprised that this wasn't posted here earlier today, esp. since the Bears are a division rival.

Kevin Seifert, who covers the NFCN for ESPN considers the ex-Alouette HC as a boom or bust HC hiring for the Bears, and of course most if not all Lions fans would prefer that he turns out to be the latter.

"Emery has either plucked a savant with exceptional ability to adapt over time or he has hired a relic based on a profile -- smart, innovative with head-coaching success -- whose window closed a long time ago."

Trestman is a QB guru....he worked for the Lions in "97.

'97, huh?

That was Scott Mitchell's final full season as being the Lions' starting QB, and although Mitchell did improve somewhat over his previous season in '96 by tossing a couple more TDs and compiling more yards passing by ~500, his QB rating slipped from a modest 79.6 to a career low of 59.2.

Mitchell got a little better from 96 to 97 but not much, 76 rating to 79.6, 500 more yards, 3 less ints and 2 more TDS while playing in 2 more games than 96. You are looking at 98 for the 59.2 rating where Trestman wasn't there. That was Barry's 2000 yard year. But Mitchell was still pretty much junk in 97. Trestman couldn't fix that garbage.

Cutler is what he is.

You're right..."Cutler is what he is". I hope this blows right up in the Bears face.

Trestman coming in to "fix" Cutler? Sure bud....this has disaster written all over it...lol.

Not positive, but I don't think that LKP actually meant in his post that he thought that Trestman can/will be able to fix Cutler. Like Mitchell, Trestman probably can't teach an "old dog" like Jay any new tricks, and he "may" turn out to be better suited in helping to groom and mold a young NFL QB much more recently out of college.

"After one of the Bears' many late season losses, a particularly zealous afternoon bar crowd heckled Cutler incessantly. To which the quarterback turned around and shouted "What are you people even doing here? Don't you have jobs?"

Seems quite similar to what ex-Lion CB and double-down DUI douchebag Aaron Berry tweeted to Lions fans soon after they lost to the Saints in the playoffs: "Y'all can go back to being Broke & Miserable…now back to regular scheduled programming."

"Following the introduction of Marc Trestman as the next head coach of the Bears. Trestman comes to town with a reputation as an offensive guru, and made it clear in his presser that Cutler will have full control of the offense"

"What was Cutler's response to this?"

Sarah Spain @SarahSpain
W & S: "Trestman said you get the keys to the car. What are you gonna do with the car?" Cutler: "Try not to wreck it, I guess" #bears >:D

Yeah I know Trestman won't fix anything. I hope it blows up in their face too. However, another year with Marshall, Jeffrey(year 2) and Benett will be beneficial, though it won't be the same offense now. If they fix their Oline, Cutler will be better though.

Meh...we'll see. I have an old football buddy who played under Trestman when he coached the Alouettes in the CFL and he seems to think the hire was genius.
