Senator Rand Paul

@RandPaul

We are at a moment of truth and a crossroads. Will we allow these people to use fear and propaganda to do further harm to our society, economy, and children? Or will we stand together and say, absolutely not. Not this time. I choose freedom.

how is this moron a doctor? I guess Opthamology school is a joke.

Maybe his neighbor will get out of prison soon and kick his ass again.

Wow, now there?s some erudition on grand display.

Here?s some from the CDC.gov from 2017:

Understanding respiratory protection options in Healthcare: The Overlooked Elastomeric

Link

?Elastomeric respirators with N95 cartridges have been used during aerosol transmissible disease outbreak emergencies like SARS as a reusable N95 respirator option. (CDC-NIOSH January 20, 2012) They are a cost-efficient and sustainable alternative when the demand for disposable respirators is excessive.?

?Surgical masks are not respirators. They are disposable coverings designed to be loose-fitting over the user?s nose and mouth. These loose-fitting masks leave gaps between the mask and the wearer?s face through which harmful particles may pass. Since the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not address the fit function of masks and surgical masks are not NIOSH approved, the mask may not be used in situations covered by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) within areas requiring the use of respiratory protection. Therefore surgical masks should never be used for protection against infectious aerosolized particles.?

Mysteriously, the ?science? evolved.

Again the CDC: Link

?Surgical masks, on the other hand, are not specifically designed to protect the wearer from airborne hazards. These devices limit the spread of infectious particles expelled by the wearer. They are used to help protect a sterile field, such as the area surrounding the site of a surgical incision, from contamination by particles expelled by the wearer, such as those generated by coughs or sneezes. Surgical masks also help provide a physical barrier to protect the wearer from splashes, sprays, or contact with contaminated hands. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates surgical masks. The FDA regulations do not require surgical masks to form a seal against the user?s face or to have a level of filtration that provides the user protection from aerosol exposures.

That?s a pretty compelling argument.

Socrates, Plato and Aristotle are looking down from wherever and smiling.

To answer your question, Senator Paul is a doctor because he graduated from the Duke medical school, and did the requisite internships and residencies.

Doubtful his assailant will be looking for more trouble.

I don't think the science has evolved. They are talking about the differences between a surgical mask and a respirator. I'm certain that fit tested respirators would be much better protection from COVID than a surgical mask, but that really isn't feasible.

A respirator is meant to protect the user. A mask is meant to help protect others from the person wearing the mask.

My concern is with the CDC?s own opinion on the effectiveness of surgical masks in preventing the inhalation or release of SARS-like viruses, and where only respirators have some measure of effectiveness, per the CDC.

And twice the CDC stated in two separate documents that surgical masks ?should never be used? and ?do not have the level of filtration? in circumstances that require protection from ?aerosolized particles? and ?aerosol transmissible diseases?.

again....a mask is meant to help protect others from the person wearing the mask.

Because

they

are

used

in surgeries

to mitigate the spread of bacteria.

They do NOTHING to mitigate the spread of respiratory virus.

Been proven time and again

again....a mask is meant to help protect others from the person wearing the mask.

Again, the CDC itself states that surgical masks should never be used to protect anyone from infectious aerosolized viruses. A surgical mask, in fact, is intended to fit loosely about the face.

they aren't meant to fully protect...they are being used to help slow the spread. I think they are a useful tool.

man, how did our country EVER win a war? jfc, we can't go two steps now, without disingenuous, bad faith, argumentative crap halting any sort of coordinated response or action.

"Don't stick your hand in the fire."

"YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!! STUDIES HAVE SHOWN BRIEF EXPOSURE TO FIRE MAY NOT RESULT IN SERIOUS BURNS. ONLY 1% OF BURN VICTIMS DIE. I BELIEVE IN PERSONAL fREedom. THE TREE OF LIBErTY MUST BE WATERED WITH THE BLOOD OF TYRANTS."

The CDC stated in writing that ?surgical masks should never be used for protection against infectious aerosolized particles.?

I think they are useless in this application and are actually detrimental, since we are inhaling what was intended to be expelled from our bodies.

I?m merely citing the CDC?s own words. You are continually changing the conversation.

the context of that statement was using the masks for protection of the user.

In this huge effort to curb the spread of COVID, the masks are not intended to protect the person wearing the mask.

exactly. what is so hard to understand about this? the same medical advice might be wrong in one situation and right in another.

I tested negative for Covid twice, and I?m vacced since April.

So who is my wearing a mask protecting, from what?
