Post-COVID: South Park Satirizes Pandemic Hysteria Over New Variant

The new episode of South Park, which satirizes COVID hysteria, features a plot where a new variant of the virus is discovered, prompting mass panic and martial law.

Great timing.

ah, so now that you recovered, you're back to downplaying the threat, I see.

This is a pretty good article. He should've written it sooner, but whatever:
If you look at the force of mortality of the population, you would notice that Covid reduces life expectancy across the board in proportion to people?s mortality, an effect at starts before middle age.

[graph in article]

The ?old person problem? related to Covid becomes effectively an argument of unconditional eugenics, unconditional senicide/geronticide. The main trait in civilized society is to protect the weak: Ancient Mediterraneans gave a higher status to the elderly (senators). The same with almost every society that is not decaying.
...
Golden Rule (Ergodic) Argument

Another problem young psychopaths don?t get is that the way society is built is via dynamic not static reasoning. As I keep writing in the Incerto, a certain class of people (usually involved in technology) affected with Black Swan blindness have a mental disorder making them ignore that things move. A 30 y.o. is not going to be frozen in complete youth and (civilized) societies have been organized around intergenerational commitments: you treat the current elderly the way you would like to be treated when you grow older. For even psychopaths will be older some day.

It is not about a single event (this pandemic) but all future pandemics, including the one that will hit when you are older. Why is it so difficult to grasp that by killing seniors, you reduce your own life expectancy ?

This is the dumbest article I've seen on COVID. This is probably the dumbest point made, although it's certainly not the only one...

If Covid is an old person problem, deserving to be ignored on that account, let?s treat cardiology, oncology, urology, and most of internal medicine in the same manner.

The ?old person problem? related to Covid becomes effectively an argument of unconditional eugenics, unconditional senicide/geronticide.

You even quoted part of that garbage. Not a single person has said anything like this at all. Literally everyone who follows the science has talked about taking measures to protect the elderly BECAUSE they are the most vulnerable and they want them to be protected. Not once has anyone said "the science says it only affects old people, so f* it, let 'em die, they had a good run. Everyone else can just ignore COVID" This is utter nonsense.

This is the same strategy used by leftists for just about anything - when someone disagrees and you can't refute them with facts, misrepresent their position, falsely claim the moral high ground and call them bad people. It's exactly what Taleb is doing here.

Not, verbatim, but this fuck did say more or less exactly that: link. His position was not extreme either, back in March 2020, and has become the default US policy since then.

Germany imposes curbs on unvaccinated, to make shots mandatory

BERLIN, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Germany on Thursday imposed restrictions on the unvaccinated as it sought to break a dramatic surge in daily coronavirus infections exacerbated by the discovery of the Omicron strain.

Outgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel and her successor Olaf Scholz agreed with leaders of Germany's 16 states to bar the unvaccinated from access to all but the most essential businesses such as grocery stores, pharmacies and bakeries.

They also agreed to pass legislation in the national parliament to make vaccination mandatory.

Eager to avoid lockdowns that could derail a fragile recovery of Europe's biggest economy, they kept businesses open to the almost 69% of the population that is fully vaccinated as well as those with proof of having recovered from COVID-19.

Merkel said an ethics committee will be asked to draft legislation to make vaccination mandatory and the Bundestag would debate and vote on the disputed measure in February at the latest.

If you read what he said, you?ll see the headline is a gross misrepresentation.

The quote is ?let?s be smart about it, and those of us that are 70+, we?ll take care of ourselves.?

How does that compare to, I don?t know, let?s say governor Newsom shutting down beaches in orange county strictly for political reasons, when by then we knew through the science that California beaches in the summer were the safest place a person could be on the planet?

oh, I'm not making a partisan attack. I don't think any place in the country - governed by a R or a D, did much, if anything, to protect nursing home residents or the elderly. Like I said, his approach is basically what all of America did, except for pushing vaccines exclusively, since 2021.

"Take care of ourselves" ... how? By hunkering at home in a society where people under 70 - infected and contagious - are refusing to wear masks to limit the spread & the government enables that? What if you're over 70 and need groceries? medical care? gasoline?

And for how long? By letting COVID become endemic, we're now stuck with it for years. So if you're over 70, possibly for the rest of your expected lifespan, you're taking a substantial risk of dying just for going out in public, seeing your kids or grandkids, etc.

I don?t know what you?re talking about. For a long time, EVERYBODY hunkered at home.

Throughout the pandemic I have been delivering shit like food and groceries to old people hunkering at home.

I haven?t been delivering medical care, but I think medical care professionals have come up with adaptations to provide medical care in the face of the pandemic.

I haven?t been delivering gasoline, that said, gas is pumped safely outdoors, and if people are generally hunkering at home anyway, how much gas do they need?

I can?t go into a grocery store without a mask. The times I have been treated for medical care, I?ve had to wear a mask.

The science indicates for the most part that they?re worthless and useless, nevertheless I have to wear a mask to go into the grocery store.

I don?t have to wear a mask to pump gasoline as long as I pump gas outdoors. Apparently, I have managed to avoid getting and transmitting Covid both when I have been pumping gas without a mask.

What measures that haven?t been taken should have been taken? We locked down a LONG TIME, yet the Covid became endemic nevertheless.

I'm not downplaying anything, I never watch south park but came across this and though it was funny. Now that I'm recovered I'm back to railing against mandates.

Yeah, that's not what he said. It's pretty obvious he thinks most older people wouldn't expect everyone else to lockdown, that they can take precautions and let everyone else, who isn't vulnerable live normal lives, not destroy the economy or bring about the obvious horrible unintended consequences of lockdowns.

Good try though.

So, a quote from 21 months ago from 1 luitenant governor that doesn't actually say anything like that. Seems like a pretty weak justification for Taleb's nonsensical article, almost 2 years later. So if Patrick's position is as you misrepresent it to be and you claim it wasn't extreme, how about you give us some more examples - it would help your cause if you found some that actually say what you claim they do. Got any more?

It's not what Florida did. They were the first to prioritize protecting the elderly - because they followed the science. To my knowledge, not a single R Governor has been accused of forcing nursing homes to take COVID infected patients.

Speaking to the issue of vaccines, Trump said, ?Some people don?t want to take them and that?s their freedom and that?s what we have to do. But, people don?t want to take them because they don?t trust Biden they don?t trust the administration.?

Wrong Trump! that's not why people like me don't want it, didn't want it under you either ya dork.

OK, let's use Science to really consider how best to move forward at this point.

Omicron is a mild version that is yet to induce anything extreme, yet is still a Covid variant.

So, in essence, it IS a "natural vaccine" to Covid. It is more transmissible and will push out the other variants that are not as transmissible.

Think about that. This is what has historically happened with viruses that reach Pandemic levels. The Spanish Flu...scientist are baffled as to how it suddenly stopped. Uh...maybe it was from a more transmissible but less deadly variant spreading quickly and knocking out the more deadly variants that could not spread as quickly??? But you know, that's just Darwinistic Science being applied and all.

Should we not be taking advantage and embracing Omicron? Encourage people to get Omicron. Have, if you will, Omicron parties similar to the old school Chicken Pox parties.

Instead we have idiot Fraudchi and the Libs trying to once again induce fear. Why? Because a "natural vaccine" will eliminate the need to have an artificial one. We must quarantine damn it!!! This thing is DEADLY (to our pocketbooks)!!!

See, Omicron will not require repeated boosters which Big Pharma is counting on. It will spread, you know...NATURALLY and SCIENTIFICALLY all on its own.

Take anyone with Omicron and ask them to spread it to those around them. Tell those around them to remove their mask and accept Omicron into their body and allow their natural immune system to fight it off. For those who become sick, chances are they will not require hospitalization...but that is a chance. Doctors have become much more successful in fighting severe Covid though, so chances are those patients will recover.

Might some people with extreme underlying conditions still die? Yes. But why is that to be feared since there is not a similar fear behind the artificial vaccines?

Remove the masks, remove social distancing, remove quarantines, embrace Omicron, accept it. The anti-vax groups have no arguments as this is not an artificial vax, it is a natural one, born from the natural Darwinistic evolution that all coronaviruses eventually mutate into. It will be just like having the flu for those who experience symptoms. A couple days of rest, fluids, and in extreme situations a doctor's assistance is all one really needs.

Omicron for the WIN!!!

you capitalized "Science" at the beginning of this post, because you have some other definition of science that has nothing to do with using the scientific method of testing a hypothesis and seeing if the results can be duplicated before drawing conclusions on your hypothesis, right?

It seems like you define Science as "pure speculation on my part, cobbled together from bits and pieces of things I read that I do not fully understand."

I capitalized it because people like Fraudchi are using it like a religion in ways that violate the Scientific Method.

It is as though Darwin was never taught, or if it was, Fraudchi and his followers failed the course.
