Agreed, but to revisit the immediate issue, those self driving trucks will be even further out than training new drivers. This does reinforce the difficulty in finding new drivers to fill all of these positions though, as some will question whether it is a good choice with these upcoming automated semis.
I do think it would be funny if they fired all these guys and then all the newbies join a renewal convoy. That's something sbee also has not considered. Hiring people who are willing to drive trucks means a percentage will be people who support it and will join it, or if it is disbanded, they might make a version 2.0 once they are trained.
Because the problem here is NOT the truckers, its the mandates. If the mandates go away, problem solved. Firing the truckers, the problem remains...and they poor gas on the 'fired' (sorry for the bad pun but it had to be dun)

It's crazy which slippery slopes some people are afraid of. Masks and vaccines --> tyranny? Of course, there's a clear path to tyranny there with historic examples. Political leaders telling you to ignore the press and your own eyes and just believe the truth he tells you while he tries to hang onto power in defiance of law? This is fine. What could be wrong with that?
