This had remained as a rumor for some time now, but it finally took place this morning. Soriano began his career with the Yankees and waived his no-trade clause to return. Obviously his becoming a Yankee means that he will have a much better chance of playing into the postseason. It might also mean more $$$ if the ballclub wishes to retain his services once his current contract expires after next year, or it could potentially be extended if Soriano performs well for the team.
"Of the estimated $24.5 million Soriano is owed through the end of next season, the Cubs are going to pick up about $17.7 million and the Yankees will cover the remaining $6.8 million, sources said. Soriano is scheduled to make $18 million next season, $5 million of which will be paid by the Yankees, the sources said."
They get Class A pitcher Corey Black in return plus they are still paying the lion's share of Soriano's remaining contract?!? The Cubs get hosed again...lolololol!!
