Best tweet on the subject to date: "Peace out, Kirk Gibson. Don't let the door give you an avulsion fracture to the 11th rib on your left side on the way out."

I remember last year when Leyland bashers wanted to hire Gibby. I said it then...Gibson's temperament is not going to cut it with today's players. It might work as a bench coach or in another capacity but not as a manager.

If I see anyone say they want us to hire Gibson, Im going to find them and punch them.

I wouldnt mind if Ausmus left, but Id want someone better than him, not worse.

Note: this is not me saying I WANT Ausmus fired, just that I wouldn't mind if he was given that he's terrible.

I'd like to see the Tigers hire Gibson … to take Rod Allen's job in the broadcast booth.

I'd like to see the Tigers hire Gibson ? to take Rod Allen's job in the broadcast booth.

Ugh... Rod's newest verbal crutch that drives me nuts is "simply". He's throwing that in nearly every other sentence now. I'd take the silly sayings any day over that.

Back on topic, I'd like to see Gibby and Tram back with the organization (bench coaches to replace Geno?), but I'm not sure I see that happening while DD is here. At least as far as it goes w/ Gibby. There definitely seems to be some mutual dislike between them.

If the Tigers ever hire Gibby in any capacity, I will lose so much respect for the organization. He is an asshole and a bad person.

Tram I'd be fine with.

Agree on all fronts. Years ago, after Gibby retired from playing but before he got into coaching, he was playing novice-level hockey in a no-check league in Grosse Pointe I think. A buddy of mine ref'd in that league and said Gibby got into more scuffles throwing more cheap shots and was nearly run out of the league.

The guy just seems to know only one speed.

My sister dated Gibson for a couple months in late '82 and she told me that he was a huge jerk. That is back when he and Rozie had become best chums....haha...((snort))

The bean-war bullshit is reason enough to start and reason enough for him to never have another coaching job in MLB. That and everything I read about the guy says he's a huge jackass.

Well, I played hockey with him twice a week for many years when it was the off season and I don't share your opinion. Yes, he was abrasive at times and was not afraid to share his opinion but that applied to about half the regular skaters in our group including me. But he blended in with us and was treated just like everyone else in our skate and he gave it right back.

I used to know some people who lived next door to Gibson in a place he rented in Lapeer one year.

He used to have really wild parties and stuff and I guess totally trashed the house and pool. He was also a real dick according to them when asked to keep it down a bit, telling the guy something like how he could kick the guys ass and the cops wouldn't even care because he gives them all tickets or something.

He was a hell of a player, but his playing days are over. And we certainly don't need his kind of volatility in our clubhouse.

I briefly met Gibby once at a bar that I worked at during college. He was nice and polite to me, but he would have had no reason to be otherwise. I've heard stories on both sides though. He's either a great guy or a complete asshole depending on who is talking. He's pretty polarizing guy around here based on personal interactions.

I wonder if trading Justin Upton for Martin Prado and trading Trevor Bauer for Didi Gregorius had anything to do with it. Those moves were straight out of the Sparky book of getting rid of guys that you do not get along with.
