D Brees

Why throw up 38-16 with 3 minutes to go.. What if a freaking defensive linemen crushed his knee.. I know records at home are important I guess but New Orleans threw like 4 or 5 times in a row late in that game.. I mean what if he was hurt and done for the playoffs. He could have easily gotten the record next week at Carolina.. If things play out like us Lions fan's hope they will be playing the Falcon's again in two weeks. I would plaster that last fucking drive right on the bulletin board if I was the Falcon's... He is good though that is for sure. LOL.....

Juiced ball era.

Admittedly I am bitter, being a Dolphins fan watching the guy Miami passed over due to injury concerns in order to sign Duante Culpepper break my favorite player's most important remaining record, but the passing numbers these days are a joke. If you don't hit 4K yards you're a bum.

Playing a hot hand.... You know Brees is probably a bit tired of Brady, Rodgers & Manning ....and Freaking Tebow.

He wanted the record and got it on a TD throw -- good guy, too. I doubt the Falcons take any motivation away from it.

I know you UM people don't like leaving your nest but there is an NFL section :) We don't bite.

Meh, I posted it here but you're welcome to move it.

I know his younger brother Reed Brees because he's been dating a sales admin from my firm for a few yrs. They went to NoLa for the game last night.

Back on my soap box, in Marino's career he only topped 4,000 yards six times. This year alone there are 7 qb's to do so with 3 others within 150 yards and a game to go.

This is stupid.

What's stupid? Its a throwing league....get over it. A record that's been standing for 27 years...it's an accomplishment whether you want to believe it or not.

I see no issue with throwing late in the game.

I am sure the whole Saints organization wanted to complete this at home. Plus Atlanta has 11 guys playing defense. Don't want them to score or throw...Stop them!

The amount of passing is stupid. The ease of passing is stupid. I can accept that it is what it is and still think it's stupid.

Yes, it's an accoplishment. So is taking your first dump of the day. Look, I like Brees and think he's a damn good quarterback who had an all-time great season (but not the best of 2011 if that says anything), but look at what each quarterback did relative to his peers. Marino had 400 more yards than the 2nd QB in '84 and over a thousand more than 3rd. Brees probably won't be the only QB to break the record this year, and there will be five QB's that will accumulate more than the 2nd best from '84.

None of that means Brees isn't the all time single season leader in passing yardage, or that he didn't accomplish it fairly, I'm just saying that what Brees did this year isn't nearly as impressive. Marino averaged nearly a full yard more per attempt (9.0 vs 8.2). He made his living throwing down the field with DB's draped over his WR's. Brees to a great extent makes his living throwing short passes to WR's spread across the field, feerless of going over the middle since defenders can be suspended if they hit them too hard, while DB's are penalized if they breathe on them after 5 yards. All of those facts of modern football are, to me, stupid.

So, is what you're trying to say is that it's "STUPID", right? Gotcha. 27 years, my friend. No matter how you slice it, it's special.

As for taking a dump is an accomplishment in your eyes? Maybe you need to get out more, bro. Just sayin'.......

Hey, you asked what was stupid, I just wanted to be sure I answered you completely. It seemed special in 1998 when McGwire broke the record, didn't it? Not so much after the fact as Sosa did the same that year and Maris was passed 4 more times over the next few years. Not equating the two, as McGwire & Co. cheated, but outside of the cheating aspect this is undoubtedly the steroid era for passing statistics. To me that makes this accomplishment not as special as it would have been under normal circumstances.

Expelling waste from our body keeps us alive...I praise Tebow every time I take a dump.

AMEN!!!

Congrats to brees. But its not as impressive. The defenses aren't nearly as tough now. He also threw it like 40 times more. If it was that great, brees would be winning the mvp instead of rodgers.

And the saints always throw it late in games. There's a reason why brees throws the ball 600 times even with a good running game. And put up 62 points in a game.
