Dan O

And for the 4th time we'll see people complaining about it.

And for the 4th time, he probably won't see any significant playing time.

Probably means we're drafting a QB late. Probably guy from Stanford.

Heard Valenti crying about this on my way home from work. Didn't get to hear who that retard wanted but he wanted the Lions to spend a little bit of money to push Stafford lol. The man could possibly be the biggest tool on the radio. Anybody catch who he wanted? It had to be RG3 lol. Fitzpatrick maybe??

I never got into listening to him and Foster. They were the reason I switched to XM.

IMO, he is a safe re-sign and knows the system. Hopefully, we get good lineman to protect Stafford. Dan O van help with development of drafted QB.

I've been on board with all of Quinns moves. ...except this one. There's no reason for Dan orlovsky to be in this league.

I don't really get what "him knowing the system" truly means. And I'm not just responding to you jdeb, I hear that all the time.

The guy flat out sucks. I'd much rather have a guy that has no clue what the system is but at least has some modicum of talent. As much as I cannot stand Stafford, if he goes down, this team is f'ed. It's a MUST that they draft someone. I am a huge Kevin Hogan fan. If he's still there in the 3rd or 4th round, take him.

I understand and i get it....i really do. Backup QBs are backup QBs for a reason though. They are never meant to see the field and this is the truth. Just pray that Stafford doesnt go down lol.

I like Valenti more than most but if he thinks Stafford (or any QB) at this age needs motivation from a backup, he's retarded. This isn't college.

Ya ...the whole push thing is dumb. But I wouldn't mind a back up that is atleast competent. Playing your back up shouldn't mean season over.

Gotta be realistic, man. Playing your backup in the NFL means season over 99% of the time. I know it happens because we've seen it in the past, but its extremely rare.

He's the biggest retard on radio and thats saying something..lol. Im just trying to figure out who he wanted them to sign.
He was even ripping on this kid who called in and said the Lions will probably draft a QB in the later rds to develop. Valenti is so anti-Lions that he doesn't even know how to argue at times...lol. Valenti wants a new QB in this town but he hates them so much that he doesn't want a QB in the later rds. Then he flips back to wanting a good FA QB to "push" Stafford. He's a fkn clown

Well, who are you gonna get to backup? There is not any viable QB's out there. Majority of college's are not preparing QB's and reason for lack of talent at the position. Some scouts think Conner Cook is the most NFL ready because of their pro style offense. MSU will soon have three QB's in the NFL and all 3 could be starting next year.

Knowing the system has it's advantages. He will be able to break down playbook for a rookie. As an example, the Bengals had veteran, Josh Johnson work with McCarron and it paid off. Say what you want about Dan O but the guy knows the game, playbook, how to prepare, and is your best bet in case of an injury. He is far from being a good QB but the best option at this point and for the future of a late round draft pick. I can think of 3 good back up QB's, Brock O was signed to start, Matt H retired, McCarron in Cinnci ain't going anywhere soon. You could add Ryan F in there but he thinks he is a starter. Forget RJ3, he got hurt real bad in Washington and if he can't run, well, he is just a 3rd backup.

The Patriots took Jimmy Garapolo in the second round and with Brady likely suspended for four games you can better believe they won't be throwing in the towel on their season. Heck the Broncos won the Super Bowl with two quarterbacks getting significant playing time. We have to draft a developmental QB this year.

The Broncos won the Super Bowl because of their defense but you wouldn't know that.....

Even with that defense Endzone Dan would have had them missing the playoffs. You think Dan O beats the Pats in OT? A solid two is very important in today's NFL where one blow to the head (rightly) puts you out for multiple weeks.

Yeah, backups are backups for a reason. I truly believe that the Broncos could have won the Super Bowl with a fucking corpse under center. Did u see Manning's numbers during the playoffs? Get your head outta your ass....

Yup, he played just well enough not to give the game away. That defense was sick. Lot of late round picks on that team too.

Well, the Lions aren't the Broncos. Their defense is JV compared to them. So if Stafford does go down, the team is f'ed.

And quite honestly, this team hasn't been drafting for an elite defense. The philosophy has been stack weapons to win on the perimeter. This isn't an issue of "pushing Stafford." This is an issue of looking towards the future if this guy cannot lead them further.
