Everytime Nebraska got something going, there was an adjustment on the fly. Crucial timeout, I think in the 2nd qtr(going to rewatch it), changed the momentum and forced a field goal. People were out of place and giving Nebraska's runners the edge. Timeout is called and the defense is stellar the rest of the way. Just an awesome performance. Martinez is one fast dude, hopefully the look he gave helped prepare the D to keep Miller in check next week.

IMO this defense is better than Lloyd's last 2 or 3.

Dude.... Carr's 2006 defense was one of the best Michigan defenses of all time.. Their run defense was insane. It held teams to an average of 43.4 yds a game. and 50.9 in the Big Ten.

No doubt that was a good defense, but they got exposed the last 2 games of the year. Hopefully this D can finish off better than that one.

this is the most improved defense - they just have to keep the intensity and effectiveness of these last few weeks goi

It wasn't because of talent. Charles Stewart got picked on a bit but that's about it... That front was nasty. English's game plans were to blame for the melt down in " The Game" and in the Rose Bowl.

On talent alone that was one of the best defenses to play for Michigan.

Oh no, i totally agree. Lamarr Woodley, enough said.

Lamarr Woodley, Leon Hall, Alan Branch, David Harris, Shawn Crable, Prescott Burgess, Chris Graham, Terrence Taylor, Tim Jamison... Good god

2006? Really??? Give me the '97 D any day. The 06 D got exposed too much at the end of the year. Blame the DC all you want, if the players were really that good they would have made the plays necessary to win the games. Not saying the DC has no responsibility in it, but with the '97 D it wouldn't have mattered if there wasn't even a DC to call plays or not cuz they were on an absolute mission and CW was insanely good obviously.

Totally agree. I was yelling TIMEOUT!! (good thing they heard me

). If memory serves, it was right after the intercepted screen pass turnover and they had two long runs consecutively by Martinez to the (offense's) left and an end-around to the right.

No doubt but he said Lloyd's last 2-3 years that's why I said it..

'06 Defense was Ron English coming in to take a Jim Herrmann/Lloyd Carr team to a Senior-lead, coached up team ....until the end. The difference with this team, is that you're not taking an under-coached and experienced team to the next level, you're taking an under-coached inexperienced level up to ...almost excellent.

I don't fear the mobile QB...its been years since that has happened even with the 06 D

That being said, i hope they convince me again this weekend that the fear of the mobile QB is now an afterthought.

I think that defense had more talent on it for sure - but this is by far the better coached defense. Lloyd's defenses always got killed by running QB's for as long as I can remember. This is the first time I can remember a Michigan team actually dominating a team with a mobile QB. The real question is how much more awesome would the 2006 defense have been if Mattison was the DC? And going forward....how awesome will Michigan's defense be once we start pumping those 4/5 star recruits through it again and have depth at every position?

Probably more awesome...

They weren't bad against USC either... that game basically came down to Jarrett beating us on deep passes twice in the 4th Q. Whether or not that was getting "exposed" I don't know... they held USC to 40 yards rushing, and the score was close up until then. 3-3 at the half. Come on...

Ron English was still a young coordinator that year. Would've been intriguing to see how our defense would fare under him after a few more seasons.

But yeah... with a seasoned guy like Mattison, that '06 defense might've been one of the best ever.
