Detroit 2 Ottawa 0 Final

Wings sloppy early.

During Wings PP, the Senators had the better scoring chances.

Both teams were taking it easy.

Especially Svechnikov when it comes to skating. I like the guy and hope he does well, but he just seems slow/lazy at times. Someone get him # of Nosek's skating coach.

Nice to see them getting some wins.

Btw, tanking sucks. The Wings never did for 25 years and won 4 cups. Just draft well.

Drafting is one thing.

Developing the players and giving them opportunities to grow are just as important. Now cap management/parity is so important. The exploitation of ELCs is a key which the Red Wings have not been exploiting enough. Instead opting for older, slower, more expensive, and often less skilled talent. Currently Red Wings have one of the WORST cap situations in the league.

Players will only get so good in the AHL.

Just remember the dead wing era were dark times.

Look at the mid 70s to mid 80s.

Also our drafting/development in recent years hasn't been good.

What's that got to do with not tanking? They have picks, develop whoever is drafted and bam.. The cap will relieve itself eventually I'm not talking a 2 year from now cup run. Are we that spoiled that we have to win every year? How many other teams won 4 cups in that time.

Enjoy the youth and watch us improve. It's an exciting time for Red Wings hockey.

Well thats easier said than done.

Detroit's MO generally has been keep them in the AHL way too long so they plateau before they make the jump to the NHL.

If they make it to the NHL, keep their ice-time under 10 minutes a game and leave em scratch as often as possible. To increase their development time.

I don't think the team has hit rock bottom yet.

Holland needs to be let go. His way of doing things does not work anymore. It is time for younger blood to take over.
