Detroit Lions FA Thread

Peppers to the Pack. 3yrs/30M max, with an 8.5 cap hit this year.

He was never gonna get that here.

Overpaid for sure. No way we should have even considered him at that cost. Well...we couldnt have cause we have no cap room.

I don't think he can put up those type of numbers in this offense. In my opinion he can top out at what he did in Seattle last year.

There are just too many players to spread the ball around too.

Come on bro,

Nate last year had 39 catches for 461 yards
Durham 38 for 490
broyles 8 for 85
pat edwards 5 for 46
not to mention our running backs combining for over 100 catches and a 1000 yards...which is not acceptable seeing as they weren't lining up as wr and were mainly catching passes out of the backfield when stafford had no open WRs.

Nate's gone, Durham will not be starting and will not have those numbers. Broyles is done. Edwards is done. There are other players who caught passes last year that aren't with the team anymore or won't have a role above emergency use.

Also, you add in the fact that Tate is much better than anyone else on our team at actually catching a ball and I think you can see that your theory about him maxing out at last year's totals are a bit off.

Russel Wilson 407 attempts.
Matt Stafford 634 attempts.

coming from the guy that wanted nicks all of last year. So now the change cause I wanted him?...or is it just some weak ass attempt to show that Pettigrew was a good signing? Hey tony...the sky is blue.

ps..he just turned 26...how the fuck is that old? Stafford is 26....should we get rid of him cause hes old?

Bringing in Nicks on a rental/prove it last season would have been fine seeing as we had no wr's outside of Calvin. But if you can pick from a FA pile and have guys like Tate who are multidimensional and more explosive for a longer more affordable deal than you do it. To bring in Nicks for 1 season on a deal worth half a mil less then the guy you got is ignorant. Nicks struggled terribly in an offense he was 1 of 2 weapons and he did nothing. He got out performed for 2 years by Cruz. BTW you would hate on Nicks for getting beat out by Cruz since Nicks was drafted high. You would say what a waste and how stupid the GM is.

Chalk me up for Tate over Nicks. I can see the argument for Nicks because he's your more traditional outside guy where Tate is more of a put it in his hands type player. That being said Tate is excellent at the point of attack and the back shoulder throw, something I'd like the Lions to do more of. Add in Tate's arrow is pointing up, where Nicks' arrow is horizontal.

Even if we had the money his production doesn't meet that price. Also in the packs 3-4 I am not sure I see his potential. Is he a LB now or are they lining him up at end. Seems like an overpay and a reach based on who it is and not so much what he can bring.

I think Tate's athleticism and hands outweigh the production Nicks had a few seasons ago. Tate was productive in many different facets where as Nicks is much more one dimensional and stopped winning 1v1 matchups. I would rather have a guy I can put any where on the LOS or return kicks and punts than a guy I have to lineup outside and design plays to get him open. Nicks has become a possession guy and really hasn't shown the speed and jumping ability recently.

Yeah I said his arrow is horizontal but really it is a ? or possibly pointing down. His injury risk has to be taken into account too because if a Lion can get injured he will.

Nicks way to injury prone for this team. Even when he isn't injured he has not lived up to his potential at all.

I love that people complain about taking injured players in the draft but want to pay 3.5 million for an often injured WR in free agency

hate to break it to you guys...but golden tate has never done anything worthwhile in his career. His "breakout" season was 900 yards and 5 tds with half the seahawks WR corps being injured. sign me up for the true #2 on the outside in Nicks on a 1 year deal playing for a new contract. When youre big splash is a WR and your major need is still WR after you sign him...that cant be good. I like the tate signing....but ill say it again....mayhew better not think were good to go and roll into next year with just Tate behind CJ.

We need to draft another. What is this Mayhew's sixth, seventh try?

Tate was in an offense that was run-first. He's young and has a ton of heart. All of this to go with his talent.

Mayhew BETTER NOT? Or what, bro...you going to whine and moan like a chick? What else is new? Seriously?

And Nicks is so good that he went to a team where he's not even close to being a #1 anymore. Gotcha!!

You undervalue tate, hughes. He's a true #2 WR whether you like it or not. WR is no longer a huge concern, but i wouldn't mind upgrading over durham and ogletree.

Is he better than Durham? Is he better than what's his nuts? No one is saying he's our number 2 and running opposite CJ. Regardless what our idiot GM does from this day forth, the WR core is stronger than it was last week..

I don't see him being much more productive than nate in this offense. I placed a higher priority on someone that could stretch the field in this offense than a 5'10'' 4.42 guy. If im brutally honest id rather have DHB at the vet min than to overpay yet another "slot" wr. How many swing and misses do we need before we get it right at the WR position?

He's not suppose to stretch the field, he's a slot. And talking about swing and misses I rather be it a free agent than a draft pick. But I don't mind Tate. I see him as a 3.

And a slot is still a need position. You need guys that can go underneath and catch a ball.
