Detroit Lions FA Thread

I hate that most of you have such extreme points of view. Am I the only one here that thinks they look better on offense but still have some work to do on defense?

I don't think they're a better team now than they were before but I don't think they're worse either. I guess my point of view doesn't make for a good internet tough guy argument though.

Internet tough guy. I fn hate that line..

I agree! They do need to work on that defense. I just want to know what defensive players were coming here because all the top players had destinations already picked out. We're getting the leftovers on D.

It's like sports talk radio, you need the extreme points to generate discussion. Most of us I think would say we fall somewhere in the middle but lean to one side. I'm a long time Lions fan, history, and yes recent history makes me lean negative.

It all boils down to money. They had those places picked out because they were getting payed. If the Lions had more cap room, we'd have been in the running for one of those safeties or corners. Some teams had way more to work with, but we knew that going into free agency. That's why this draft is so important, need something similar to last season's draft.

I think we are better off just by the simple fact we got rid of a coaching staff that shit the bed over and over again. Our offense is better. Defense is up in the air. If Taylor is healthy and we get a safety that practices I think were ok

We had the money to go get a Byrd or a Talib. THEY DID NOT WANT TO COME HERE.

Why is my point extreme? Cause I dont think tate and pettigrew are some sort of stafford saviors? Cause I think we blew our wads on a wr and one of our biggest needs is still wr. Cause I dont think pettigrew will help our o much....cause...well....hes been here for 5 years and hasn't helped our o much? We still need starters at de olb cb s? what exactly did i say that was so extreme?

Just because we had the money, doesn't mean the Lions pursued them. You don't know any more than I do whether they did or didn't.

P.S. Your caps lock is on.

If I did a poll of DSF and made everyone choose on a scale of 1-10 whether you're a negative (1) or positive (10) Lions fan, you'd come out to a 0.

I actually agree with you more often than I don't, but to say you aren't on the extreme negative side on most things related to this team would be laughable.

here's my thing...

We just signed a HUGE upgrade over burleshit and durdumb. He has a history of bailing out his QBs on poorly thrown balls. Stafford has had accuracy issues and I don't think any great WR is going to be the fix. Sure, it does help and Tate and CJ will bail him out at times, but he has to put the work in and the QB/OC coaches need to steer him in the right position. Even if he doesn't fix anything, we're still going to have a top 5 offense. And I don't think you would even deny that.

Tate was cheap for what he's bringing to this offense and pretty much makes WR less important in the draft. Now we can focus on the defense, which was about 75% of the reason we choked last year.

And instead of looking at it with that reasonable point of view, you immediately go with the "we overpaid for a slot receiver, this sucks. mayhew is an idiot." argument.

Tate helps this team. Pettigrew has his faults, but he also has worked with stafford for a while now. There's something to be said for that. Offense is going to be good and now we can focus on fixing this piece of shit secondary.

ok and if I give the logical explanation of the draft is the deepest its ever been at WR.....so we go get one in FA? Now we need to fix 4 holes on D in the draft? Im just trying to project what are team is going to look like.

We have a brand spankin new ocord that says he wants to run an offense a lot like NO's....so we resign Pettigrew? wtf? Pettigrew is the furthest thing from jimmy graham I can ever think of.

I really have no problem with Tate as a player. The "negative" tone youre getting is yet again directed at mayhew. Who has said a bunch of crap that hasn't happened so far this off season. And is building our team ass backwards. "Offense is going to be good and now we can focus on fixing this piece of shit secondary" YES! EXACTLY! our defense blows donkey balls. Well....it blew donkey balls then we lost 3 more important pieces...so now it blows super donkey balls. But we go out and spend all our money on a WR and Pettigrew. I just don't get it......

Make the space like you said you would....go get fixes at DE, CB and S so you can focus on bringing in productive additions to you team via draft instead of having to draft 3 or 4 guys that get thrust into starting roles cause theres no one else that can play.

Tate helps this team how? If we were a top 5 offense before...did we get better? Are we now the best offense in the NFL? We got marginally better on offense (debatable depending on if you think tate will be more productive than nate) and worse on defense thusfar through the offseason process.

The dude makes sense. It would have been better if we got defensive free agents and used the draft to get a WR, maybe a TE and defensive depth.

Is there anyone besides evans and watkins (who might not make it to us) that are definitely going to be better than tate THIS year? No, there isn't. Maybe somebody will get lucky, but as it stands, i dont see it. On the other hand, the secondary class is deep and we couldn't afford any of the top cbs in fa. And we struck out with the safeties. I dont know if we tried for any other DE's, but i still think the dbs are our biggest concern. Now, we can go D in the first few rounds and not worry about WR.

I just think we need defensive help more..DE, CB, LB, S and defensive depth. Guys that can perform right off, not sure we can get that with this draft.

they don't know that either. they'll just pick them then plug them and play them. Not cause they won the job....cause theres no competition, we have no depth anywhere, and we have no other options cause we will have no cap space. sounds like a recipe for success to me!

We get one of the top two receivers in free agency and people still bitch.

its funny how hes one of the 2 best WRs in FA now....after we signed him. But not a single person said his name prior to FA. After ALLLLL the FA discussions weve had on this board it was never about golden tate....ever. but now hes the best....suuuuuuuuuuure.
