Detroit Lions FA Thread

Is there anyone besides evans and watkins (who might not make it to us) that are definitely going to be better than tate THIS year? No, there isn't. Maybe somebody will get lucky, but as it stands, i dont see it. On the other hand, the secondary class is deep and we couldn't afford any of the top cbs in fa. And we struck out with the safeties. I dont know if we tried for any other DE's, but i still think the dbs are our biggest concern. Now, we can go D in the first few rounds and not worry about WR.

no one is better than a seldom productive 5'10, 4.42 WR from notre dame? This was his first good year.....and he was basically thrown into a situation where he was the #1 WR only because rice and harvin were out. So in a contract year he puts up 800+ yards for the first time in his career and now we have people on here self proclaiming him as the best FA wr in the class. wtf kinda crack are you guys smoking? And theres no one in the draft that can live up to one 800+ yard season and 5 TDs? srsly?

Theres still top FA secondary help in FA....but that doesn't matter cause we cant afford any of them. DRC and Clemons come to mind.

DE is going to be a hard find via draft. Maybe Barr at 10? not a great fit or value....would be a need pick. Not many high impact guys in rd 2 at DE....maybe scott Crichton or kareem martin.

Safety would be a reach at 10. There would be good safety value in rd 2 and a couple guys that should be avail at our pick (jimmie ward, terrance brooks). If it plays out like that you pretty much are rolling with Houston and Slay at cb....ewwww....and a 2nd rd rookie and Quin at safety. So ya....your secondary hasn't improved since last year.....probably has regressed at that point.

Perfect world need mock post FA:
1) Justin Gilbert CB Might not drop that far
2) Kareem Martin DE Might not drop that far
3) Donte Moncrief WR Probably wont drop that far
4) Ahmad Dixon S 4th round starting safety...yay.

I'm wary of any rookie at DB. Whether you like it or not, Houston back to 2011/2012 form and Slay developing in year 2 is our best bet at CB (even if we take Gilbert). It's up to Gilbert to beat out one of those 2 to start. It's not a given (see rookie Slay getting replaced by Mathis).

I agree with not throwing a rookie CB into the fire......but if we do end up landing Gilbert....Houston would be in the nickel by week 6......and would instantly be one of the 5 best nickel corners in football.

No matter what you are taking chances. You are counting in a guy returning to previous form, and a 2nd year 2nd rounder taking a big leap forward. Given the choice I would prefer a rookie top 10 pick CB over a 2nd year guy that struggled to see the field.

If Watkins is sitting there at #6 or 7 I'm a huge fan of trading up to get him. I want to make it almost impossible for a QB to fail.

To make it to a superbowl you need to be very good all around, or elite at one side of the ball.

Slay and Houston have just as good of a chance as Gilbert in 2014 to play well. Long term help Gilbert would be a great pick. I'd lean towards the guys with experience for 2014. They all have similar speed and Houston has the best technique out of all 3 of them.

if they still sign that safety from the Ravens and Draft Gilbert or Denarrd in the first i'd be happy. if Gilbert doesn't fall to them at 10 then trade down, get the extra pick or 2 and draft Denarrd

Just because we had the money, doesn't mean the Lions pursued them. You don't know any more than I do whether they did or didn't.

P.S. Your caps lock is on.

That's my fn point..lol. People love to blame Suh, blame Mayhew or blame China but it's nobody's fault. Top FAs usually have their destinations picked out. Most of the top defensive guys were signed immediately to other teams. The Lions weren't even an option.

GET IT?!

TJ Ward might have been...but if you had contracts in hand for Det and Den, which team would you choose? Would you even take a bit less to play for a winner? No brainer yes.

The dude makes sense. It would have been better if we got defensive free agents and used the draft to get a WR, maybe a TE and defensive depth.

What defensive players? Name one "relevant" name that they could have gone out and snagged..

ok and if I give the logical explanation of the draft is the deepest its ever been at WR.....so we go get one in FA? Now we need to fix 4 holes on D in the draft? Im just trying to project what are team is going to look like.

We have a brand spankin new ocord that says he wants to run an offense a lot like NO's....so we resign Pettigrew? wtf? Pettigrew is the furthest thing from jimmy graham I can ever think of.

I really have no problem with Tate as a player. The "negative" tone youre getting is yet again directed at mayhew. Who has said a bunch of crap that hasn't happened so far this off season. And is building our team ass backwards. "Offense is going to be good and now we can focus on fixing this piece of shit secondary" YES! EXACTLY! our defense blows donkey balls. Well....it blew donkey balls then we lost 3 more important pieces...so now it blows super donkey balls. But we go out and spend all our money on a WR and Pettigrew. I just don't get it......

Make the space like you said you would....go get fixes at DE, CB and S so you can focus on bringing in productive additions to you team via draft instead of having to draft 3 or 4 guys that get thrust into starting roles cause theres no one else that can play.

Tate helps this team how? If we were a top 5 offense before...did we get better? Are we now the best offense in the NFL? We got marginally better on offense (debatable depending on if you think tate will be more productive than nate) and worse on defense thusfar through the offseason process.

You too, genius. Name the top flight defensive player that they SHOULD HAVE signed that fixes a major hole.

Tate haters: he is entering his prime, has a great (as in very low) drop rate (something many people have been harping on our current receivers about), makes plays after the catch, and put up solid numbers on a run first team against the defenses' best cover guy. He also came on a fair deal.

Pettigrew: I agree that he's nothing like Graham, but how many guys really are? He does help in pass protection and run blocking while being OK in the pass game. If we really want to focus on the secondary and WR early, we pretty much had to resign him or address the position some other way. We will be more dedicated to the run again this year, and Pettigrew really helps there.

We could still address other needs (CB, FS) if they resign Suh, but it's looking like that won't happen for a while, if ever. On a side note here... I am seriously unhappy that Suh went this route... I don't buy for a second that he just randomly took all that time to find an agent when he should have been helping the team prepare for FA by getting the deal done. Instead, he wasted weeks needlessly in hopes, I firmly believe, that he could exploit Detroit's need for cap space now into a better contract. The man has already been paid due to the insane rookie deal and restructure he's got, it should be all about winning for him now. Instead, he screwed his team in FA just to press for an extra few million in guaranteed money. He really has ticked me off with that move.

Ward signed immediately with Denver. Maybe Detroit did talk to him but let's be serious...lol

I just think we need defensive help more..DE, CB, LB, S and defensive depth. Guys that can perform right off, not sure we can get that with this draft.

You're not sure eh?? Of course you're not sure...lol. You know absolutely fn NOTHING about the game. This is the deepest draft in the last 10 years. Listen or do some reading for fuck sakes on the subject at hand...makes you look less of a clueless individual...

Didn't take you long before you started hating the Tate signing eh? You and Hughes are pathetic.

same shit from you every year. Lions prove me right and prove you to be a TOTAL and complete idiot every fucking year. Hows it feel to be dumb?....all the time?!

"Mr Mayhew ...We have NO STARTING DE, S, CB, OLB"

"Sounds good...lets go get a slot wr."

"But sir...the last 6 slot WRs you tried amounted to nothing"

"Its all good...pay him whatever he wants"

"but hes only had over 800 yards once in his career and that was basically cause they had no one else to throw the ball to and it was a contract year"

"sounds like my kinda guy....best WR on the FA market mutha fuckaaaaaaaa"

***Asterik*** one year of his entire career when there were no other options available except a bunch of UDFAs ***Asterik***

What am i wrong about, you fn goof? Tate was a great signing. You and your bf are the only ones who disagree. You're the biggest fn idiot on this board and EVERYONE knows it. Mitch can't think for himself and for some dumb ass reason he latches on to everything you say. See the pattern, buddy? You, who is the most negative person on the planet and Mitch, who doesn't know a fn thing about the game of football. What a disturbing combo.

So the real question is, how does it feel to be laughed at? ALL the time?

youre the idiot that said it. You FUCKING said no one wants to come here! Now youre to dumb to remember what the fuck you said 2 posts ago?

What's that have to do with Mayhew, you fn jerkoff?! lmfao.

All the top flight D players are going to PLAYOFF teams. Wtf don't you get? Idiot
