Detroit Lions FA Thread

With your logic every other team will be better too. All of their rookies from last year will develop equally.

This team is no better off now than they were at the end of the season. They got a little bump with Tate but still don't have a safety. We don't know that the new safety will be any better than Delmas. They haven't addressed the most glaring weakness which is depth. Of course they will fix that with their abundance of draft picks!

im skeptical tate will be more productive than Nate....ill have to see how different the offense is. but I don't see tate getting an abundance of targets the way it seems most of the people on here are assuming he will. Im projecting something similar to nates good years here....700 yards and like 6 Tds. Would I pay him the money he got for that production...probably not. Again, it becomes another prove me wrong scenario...im still waiting to be pleasantly surprised by someone on this team to exceed expectations.

Tate is better than burleson just for health reasons. Burleson missed 16 of the last 32 games. Tate is surely better than Durham and Titus young and company for 16 games. Tate is a younger better version of burleson. Durable better speed better hands better yac. Tate was the top target on Seattle. He is getting the targets. Durham got 80 and burleson had a bunch too. 100 targets for Tate is a great possibility. More Tate means less pettigrew so this should make you happy Hughes.

I mentioned more than just players growing. Don't know how you morphed my comment into just relying on growth. Tate and jones are upgrades. Plus coaching. We aren't done at safety. Year one to year two you usually see a jump which is why I mentioned that. Plus the discussion was the lions getting better. Those players growing would make the lions better. That is a fact. I never said other teams wouldn't have players grow. You put those words in my mouth. Lions get better and other teams get better too. We will see which combo for teams happens and gets the most growth.

And Clemons and Ihedigbo were both better than Delmas last year and more reliable health wise. EIther would be a good chance at an upgrade

saying hes better and him actually getting a lot of balls thrown his way are 2 different things. I agree hes better...I just don't think it will show up on the stat sheet.

we don't have clemons or ihedigbo. and ihedigbo is garbage and clemons doesn't make any big plays his entire career....just racks up tackles. They are both better than carey though....so if our gm ever gets some cap room we should sign one of them.

If you look at the targets from prior years. Tate easily gets 100 balls if he plays 16. You are dead wrong that he can't get the same targets. Burleson had 110 in 2011. Tate is better and can produce more than 700 yards easily with those targets. Had 898 with 98 targets last year.

Ihedigbo and Clemons are both rated better than Delmas. Neither get penalized, Clemons is better in coverage than Delmas and Ihedigbo was 2nd best safety in run support. Both can be upgrades. I love how all of a sudden Delmas is some irreplaceable player in your eyes. Your hate for mayhew is just too obvious

delmas was injured and not practicing and couldn't cover worth a lick....he was done. Clemons is about the 7th best safety in FA. Ihedigbo is probably top 12 in FA. Neither are someone to get excited about. But again, they are better than carey so im all for it. You have a knack for talking up average. Both of those safties are average at best.

With the way we throw he might. But Matt $tafford is still a less than 60% when it comes to accuracy for his career. Tate only reached 700 once and that was last year..plus if we draft another WR, there just might be too many guys to get those targets. CJ, new guy, Bell, Bush and Tate. Plus Pettigrew.

was going to bring up how Stafford isn't the best at going to his 3rd and 4th options especially since he makes a read and guns it in less than 2 seconds. But im sure lkp would have brought up some non relevant statto make it sound like Stafford spreads the ball around better than anyone else in the nfl lol.

His 3rd and 4th were never open. Young got plenty of targets in 2011 with Nate and pettigrew over 100 targets. Tate will get 100 targets easy and should produce just as much as 2013 if not more with all the focus on Calvin. 650 attempts again for stafford. Plenty for everyone.

Clemons and Ihedigbo are higher and better than average. They ranked higher than Delmas in 2013. They are upgrades over Delmas.

I'm getting tired of Matt throwing 600 times. You really want him throwing 650 times?

Here's an idea, run more throw less. Maybe teams will concentrate more on the run so it will make it easy for Matt in the passing game..at this point he's not much different than Scott Mitchell - that's right I said it..

Didn't you already post this? And who says we're getting one of those saftjes? Did they sign yet..

base salaries don't need to fit under the cap but signing bonuses do. Depending on how many picks you have you typically need about 2 mil in room. If were serious about signing a safety....we don't have enough money under the cap to sign our draft picks as the roster currently stands.

They'll be able to sign their draft picks. Don't be a fn idiot..

youll never get it cause ur a blind homer. rotoworld I think is fair to say is one of the least biased sites and is known for telling it how it is has updated ever teams salary cap. Heres what they wrote about us:

31 (notice were ranked 31). Detroit Lions

Approximate Current Available Cap Space - $2.6 million

GM?s on the hot seat don?t always exhibit rational thinking. So while Detroit's long-term cap scenario is unsettling for Lions fans, it is not Martin Mayhew's chief concern?he won?t be around to deal with the consequences if the Lions fail to make the playoffs in 2014. The signing of Golden Tate, whose $3.1 million 2014 cap hit gradually increases over the life of this deal, will only contribute to the Lions future cap issues. But Tate is a playmaker?the type of player who might save Martin Mayhew?s job.

After re-signing Brandon Pettigrew and bringing in former Redskin Darryl Tapp, Detroit has exhausted its 2014 spending money. Mayhew could create some more space by extending Ndamukong Suh, whose current 2014 cap number is a whopping $22,412,500.

so in short....we have an irrational GM trying to save his ass and hes doing so while being 31st out of 32 in cap space. This after basically getting nothing out of FA...the team is basically the same as last year and can easily be argued as worse. Minus Burleson delmas young....add tate.

Just because you had a wet dream of Nicks and Peppers coming here doesn't mean we didn't do anything in FA. We acquired a playmaking WR, re-signed a starting TE, re-signed a stud RB and added depth along the DLine.

How the fuck are we worse??? lol. Because of Delmas and Willie bolting??? Go away, you fn moron

Lions run it plenty. 14th in league in attempts. Running it 50 to 100 more times won't make us a better offense. This team is built to pass and quite frankly they do it well. They move the ball and score points despite being handcuffed with less turnovers forced from the defense than most teams ahead of us in the points scored per game get. And handcuffed with injured or poor number 2 and number 3 wrs. Now we have Tate and a talented draft pick hopefully
