Detroit Lions FA Thread

outside of that last TD drive to take the lead, i whole heartedly agree.

but again, those are all hypothetical situations that have no bearing on the reality of what actually transpired.

LKP, you can spout off as much as you want on the woulda, coulda, shoulda's, but the fact is that they didn't... not even you can deny that (although i bet you'll try).

a great man once said hope is not a plan...

how well we scored? we were 3rd in scoring in our division and scored only 4 more points than a ponder led/APless Vikings team.

yes...im thrilled we have a punter now so when Stafford fails we can try to gain some field position back :D

Chicago had 3 more def td and 3 extra starts inside 20. Lions had a better offense. See a sweep of Chicago. And Detroit scored just like gb. Scoring points was a positive for Detroit especially since we didn't get the turnovers like almost every team with more ppg than us

Let it go. 7-9. The only stat that matters. New year, new team, new coaches.

We all joke about LKPs hope and change mantra but everyone better be crossing their fingers extra tight because as much as I want Mayhew gone a rebuild would be nasty. It would likely mean the loss of Suh and Fairley, Stafford hit his ceiling and is overpaid, CJs prime wasted, and more mediocrity before we can even think playoffs again. A lot riding on this year, I'd say like the next five if things end up disastrous.

they better have a good draft cause I see an 8 and 8 team at best. more like 7 and 9. new offense, crappy secondary going into draft hurts. no backup qb, so o line better be spectacular.

these offensive coaches better be miracle workers like a lot of fans hope they are. We'll see how much Stafford can retain in one off season. All the guy needs to do is not fuck up so much. He really does have soooo many weapons...no one has ever argued that. He just does a poor job using them.

so youre saying our defense sucks and our ST isn't very good. Thanks for agreeing LKP!

Didn't you know turnovers aren't the product of a good defense but are purely based on luck?

especially ones when the TE our douchebag GM resigned ducks when the qb throws him the ball. Or when our #2 WR is about to run oob but thought the rule was youre not allowed to run out of bounds with the ball in your hand so he throws it to the other team. So much talent!!!!!!

At turnovers they were just ok (but didn't get the bounces for the fumble recoveries) but poor at scoring defensive TDs. Funny they would have had one more if Suh didn't cheap shot O'Sullivan. And Stafford would have one less pick because of it (Week 1 tipped pick). Everything is related in the NFL.

The defense is good at getting stops. You are good hughes at reading a sentence and jumping to a crazy conclusion based on that one sentence. Saying the Lions only forced 22 turnvoers doesn't mean the defense sucked.

Pettigrew has talent. Good overall TE. Not a seam guy obviously but he has talent to pick up first downs and block. You don't judge a guy on one play either when he has 5 seasons in the league.

Durham is big but can't get separation and is inconsistent catching the ball. Durham lacks some talent and skill.

Your favorite site PFF said that as far as blocking goes, Pettigrew in 2013 was not good. So there's that theory blown.

Pass blocking he was. Run blocking in his career. It's more than just 2013. Talking a career of talent. Pettigrew has several good run blocking years.

Maybe and I never had total hate on him I just wish the money was used for a defensive player.

The way the Lions did it, they are only relying on Ansah and Slay and Warford and Taylor (backup) as 2nd year players. Relying on a rookie TE with Fauria and Williams wouldn't be the best option IMO. Pettigrew has value and his cap number is only 2.2 million. Not many defensive players fit 2.2 million other than Ihedigbo which we got too on top of Tate (huge need). It was a good deal for the Lions with Pettigrew. And they valued Petigrew more than Young.

Lions can restructure others or extend Suh for more but there isn't much out there besides cheap deals now. And if you don't have faith in Jason Jones/Taylor or Houston/Slay, well we still have a draft and plenty of picks in the firsr 4 rounds.

you say that, but the reality is that he's a better all around TE than any we could get in the draft, or that are currently on the team. and his contract wasn't all that bad considering a very quiet TE market.

the truth is, who could we have gotten for that same money, esp considering the deals that players got?

Why would we need a TE in the draft? I was fine with the TE we had..

you're fine with Fauria (a 2nd year guy who can't block well), Williams (a 1st year guy who can't catch well, and we have no clue how his skill set will transfer to the NFL) and Veldman (no clue what this guy can or can't do)?

you're optimistic about that situation?

No. But some say Pettigrew can't catch well, some say he can't block well..and what's wrong with Fauria, just because it's only year two for him?

We have enough offensive weapons. We need defense..

i disagree. Pettigrew was a good solid TE for all his years here except 2012... hell, that's the reason he was resigned in the first place (for cheap too, in case you forgot).

answer the question then...

I already did. I was okay with the TE we had. We have CJ, Tate, Bush and Bell. Plus maybe a drafted WR..we have many offensive weapons. Imo, signing Pettigrew was not a need.
