Detroit Lions - Team Notes

Scout says Frank Ragnow ?is going to be a good pro?.
Anonymous scout is back and talking about the Lions? draft picks.

Your favorite anonymous source is back: ?anonymous scout.? ESPN tapped anonymous NFL executives, coaches and scouts to give their opinions on some of the top 2018 NFL Draft picks. One anonymous scout said of the Detroit Lions? first-round pick Frank Ragnow that, ?He?s got a little stiffness, but he?s good. He?s going to be a good pro.?

The article also looks at the effectiveness of first-round centers and has an intriguing theory on how the Lions? may have fallen in love with Ragnow. It?s an interesting read if you have ESPN Insider.

The Lions and DT Akeem Spence have agreed to a reworked contract, according to ESPN insider Field Yates. Spence's base salary drops from $3.15 million to $2.575 million. He can recoup some of those cut wages, Yates reported, and this saves the Lions $500,000 in cap room. Spence had actually earned the now-reworked money in bonuses last year. It's an interesting decision by the Lions considering Spence played well for them last year and Detroit's only main addition at defensive tackle was Sylvester Williams. The team did draft defensive lineman Da'Shawn Hand last week.

Matt Ryan's new deal makes Matthew Stafford's look even better.
Mlive

On Thursday, Matt Ryan just inked a deal that well exceeds Stafford's. Ryan has agreed to a five-year extension with the Falcons worth $150 million, per ESPN. It's the new largest contract in NFL history, which really just means he is the latest franchise quarterback to sign an extension.

Stafford set a new market with his five-year, $135 million deal last summer. Since then, franchise signal-callers have just outpaced his $27 million annual salary. Jimmy Garoppolo signed for $27.5 million a year with the 49ers. Kirk Cousins finagled $28 million a season out of the Vikings, and although that was just for three years, he was able to get it fully guaranteed. Now, Ryan hits the ceiling at $30 million.

Next up is Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Before long, Stafford will go from being the highest-paid quarterback in league history to third in his own division, based simply on how contracts build on one another.
