Detroit Lions - Team Notes

https://www.detroitlionspodcast.com/christopher/2018/09/26/detroit-lions-podcast-lions-cowboys/
Detroit Lions Podcast Episode 171 ? Lions Look To The Cowboys. 2 Hours 10 minutes.

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case break down this week in Detroit Lions news. Game three saw a shocking turn around for the franchise and turned the pessimism surrounding the team on its head.
We discuss the whether or not this was a fluke or a sign of things to come. Jeff Risdon of course joins us for his insight as well.

We start the Detroit Lions Podcast with more listener calls, this time in response to the Pats game. ?Put ?em on Blast? had a record number of call ins, which we hope continues. These calls give voice to Lions fans, and we will continue to allow our listeners to put *anyone* on blast every week.
You call (929) 33-Lions, we?ll put it on the air. Go ahead and vent, it?s the only way to clear the air.

The Detroit Lions Podcast Breaks Down The New England Patriots
From there we go into game review mode. Looking at how the win against the New England Patriots exceeded expectations. It wasn?t perfect, but it was damned near close, and we break down everything that went right for the team.

Credit goes out to guys like Theo Riddick, who has not always gotten the benefit of the doubt from us, and Kerryon Johnson. Big credit to Darius Slay, Quandre Diggs, and the rest of the secondary, who truly were the stars of the game as well. More praise is also due to Matt Patricia for a well called and well-played game.

A specific emphasis is put on the rest of the season and expectations for the team. We look at continued injury issues for upcoming opponents, both in the NFC North and league-wide.

On that topic, the Dallas Cowboys poor performance against the Seattle Seahawks is discussed. We also consider the effect of the loss of starting LB Lee as the team goes on the road to Dallas next week.

After all that, it?s time for Riz?s wisdom with Jeff Risdon on the Detroit Lions Podcast. He talks Lions offensive line, the reputation of the team around the league, and what the game against Dallas holds.

A quick nugget -- that could be helpful for fantasy purposes -- from Lions RB Kerryon Johnson. He was asked today about 20, 30 or 40 touches in a game. He laughed and shook his head. Then, he explained further: "The 30, 40, that's preposterous. The 20, it could happen. Just comes down to, hey, how is the game going? If I'm having a good game, if [LeGarrette Blount] is having a good game, you might not even get 10. It's just depends how the game is going, whoever is hot. I'm telling you, if LG is running the ball great and I'm not, I'm going to tell them, hey, LG deserves the ball. That's just how it goes."

Detroit Lions offensive line ranks 5th, per PFF.
The Lions offensive line may finally be coming together.
For years now, Detroit Lions fans have dreamed of an effective offensive line. Sick of seeing running backs taken down in the backfield and Matthew Stafford nursing some kind of injury, general manager Bob Quinn has made it his mission to fix this problem.

After years of drafting and free agency additions, he may have finally done it. It?s early, but through three games, the Lions? offensive line is the fifth best in the entire league, according to Pro Football Focus? most recent rankings.

?The Lions have been extremely up and down so far this season, but this past week?s performance showed exactly what this offensive line is capable of,? PFF?s Michael Renner wrote. ?They allowed all of five pressures on 40 pass-block snaps against the Patriots and opened up holes for their first 100-yard rusher since 2013.?

Interestingly enough, the Lions? offensive line isn?t the best in the division. The Packers rank just above them at fourth overall. The two teams are due to face off in Week 5, so we?ll see how the two match up then.

Are the Cowboys trying to get a quick competitive advantage on the Lions? They’ve signed former Lions defensive tackle Christian Ringo to their practice squad.

Speaking of practice squad additions, the Lions made a transaction of their own on Wednesday:
The #Lions have signed TE Jerome Cunningham to the practice squad and released RB Donnel Pumphrey from the practice squad.
