Pride Of Detroit Lions Blog Podcast Does Matt Patricia deserve blame for the Detroit Lions? conservative, inefficient offense? 80 minutes.
The PODcast tries to figure out who?s culpable in the Lions? offensive failures.

We all love ourselves a scapegoat. Problems seem much more simple and solvable if there?s one person at the root of the issues.

Things are rarely that simple, however, and when things are going wrong in any facet of life, there are likely a ton of different factors contributing to said failure.

The Detroit Lions? offense is failing right now, and while we can all agree that poor quarterback play and limited personnel have contributed to that as of late, coaching has taken the brunt of the criticism, and for good reason. Detroit?s gameplan is lacking in innovation and the results speak for themselves.

Offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter is the most obvious target for scapegoating and most fans are calling for his firing. But how much is head coach Matt Patricia to blame? Patricia defended many of Cooter?s decisions from Sunday?s game against the Rams, including the much-maligned decision to run on third-and-goal from the 19-yard line.

That?s the topic on this week?s PODcast as we recap the Rams game.

This week on the PODcast:
Is the Detroit Lions defense finally showing the improvement that we?ve all been waiting for? Or was this just a case of Jared Goff playing poorly?

More Matthew Stafford mistakes.

Is there any optimism to take from the Lions? past three performances?
With the playoff well out of the picture, do ?moral victories? give you any hope?

Conservative play calling: A byproduct of poor offensive personnel?
The result of an overly-safe offensive coordinator?
Or is this the new normal under Matt Patricia?

Aaron Donald just MANHANDLED the Lions offensive line. Is he an MVP candidate.

Taylor Decker scored a TD! I wish the offense was always this fun!

Mike McCarthy is out as the Packers? head coach. Is this good news for the Lions?
Who are some potential replacements? Ryan fires off some names that are... certainly some names.

?Africa? is still undefeated at Ford Field and don?t you dare challenge it again.

Mailbag tackles potential cap casualties in 2019, talks etiquette for giving the ball back to Taylor Decker and plays a game of ?What will happen first: A Lions Super Bowl or...?

Detroit Lions Podcast Episode 188 ? Lions Look To The Arizona Cardinals. 66 minutes.

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case take a look at the Lions loss to the Los Angeles Rams, talk about what?s to be gained from giving Jim Bob Cooter his walking papers, and discuss Golden Tate, Kenny Golladay, and Zach Zenner. We also take a look ahead to the Arizona Cardinals.

This week we begin by taking a call for a favorite segment, ?Puttin? ?em on Blast?, and get a good critique of Jim Bob Cooter and his ability. It sparks a great conversation about what we could gain/lose from making a move at offensive coordinator at this point in the season. Chris is finally convinced that he?s ready to move on from Jim Bob at this point and talks about how we might even get better while also assessing a potential candidate to replace Cooter.

Detroit Lions Podcast Game Review
From there we take a look back at the game against the Los Angeles Rams. There were some high points, and some really great things to take away from that game, but it was also another opportunity squandered. Once again our Lions were able to create hope where we had none and dashed those hopes before we could realize greatness. For many, the Lions showed how to beat the Rams offense from the defensive side of the ball, but one of the keys to that is to have an offense. We missed on that one.

From there we discuss the Golden Tate trade with new perspective. Could it be the lack of remaining home games and the team?s lack of belief in JBC that led to the trade? Picking up a good draft spot while knowing the effect on the team from the fans? perspective would be small? A fresh conspiracy to chew on at this point in the Lions season. We also discuss the effect of Tate?s departure and Marvin Jones injury on the production of Kenny Golladay. The effect is real and at the same time, some good experience being built at the same time. Lastly, we discuss the misuse of Zach Zenner in the Lions offense. The standard, ?he?s doing well, better stop using him? problem from JBC.

Detroit Lions Wildcard Chances
We take a look at what it would take for the Lions to seal the deal for a Wildcard playoff position. Its not impossible, yet there is still work to be done. The biggest game is the next one, but in the scheme of things the Vikings at home could be the pivot point for their opportunity to make the dance.

Moving ahead, we take a look at the upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals and discuss where the team?s opportunities might lie.

Lastly, Case takes us for a quick run ?Around the Division? where we discuss the Green Bay Packers and their coaching changes, the Minnesota Vikings and their future financial issues, and The Chicago Bears and their love of sausages.

ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions are limping toward the finish line.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford headlined an injury report on Wednesday that was among the club’s longest of the season. He’s dealing with a back injury and was listed as limited for the club’s walk-through earlier in the day.

Stafford took four sacks and was hit 11 times overall in Sunday’s loss against the Rams. He was late for his postgame press conference, which sparked speculation he was undergoing postgame X-rays or other medical testing. He declined to comment.

“I’m OK,” he said. “I’m good.”

But three days later, he’s not so good. And he’s not alone.

Running back Kerryon Johnson (knee) and linebackers Devon Kennard (hip) and Trevor Bates (ankle) did not practice, while defensive end Ezekiel Ansah (neck), receiver Kenny Golladay (quad), fullback Nick Bellore (ankle), receiver Bruce Ellington (back) and receiver Brandon Powell (calf) were limited.

That’s six current starters who are banged up, and eight players overall. And that doesn’t include linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin, who was moved to injured reserve earlier in the day. Receiver Marvin Jones, guard T.J. Lang and All-Pro returner Jamal Agnew are among those also on IR.

The receiver position is particularly thinned out, with Jones out for the year, Golden Tate in Philadelphia, Golladay battling a quad and Ellington playing through a balky back. With four games to go, Detroit’s only healthy receivers are TJ Jones and Andy Jones.

On defense, Kennard missed his first practice of the season after suffering a hip injury against Los Angeles. He didn’t finish the game. And just one week after putting in his first full practice of the week, Ansah is right back on the mend, this time with a neck injury. He’s also battled knee and shoulder problems this year.
