If you?re a subscriber to the PODcast or just an observant reader of Pride of Detroit, you may notice that there?s a new episode that dropped on Tuesday morning entitled ?SPECIAL: 2019 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft.?

Our friends over at the mothership put together an awesome mock draft episode where site managers for all the teams with a first-round pick in this year?s draft made appearances to make their selections for the team they represented.

As you may remember, I selected Brian Burns with the eighth overall pick for the Detroit Lions. You can read my rationale, and we devoted an entire podcast to it, which you can listen to here.

I make a brief appearance on this SB Nation podcast, as well, briefly touching on some of the players I considered and why I think Burns could transform the Lions? defense completely. But this episode provides a nice background into what the other 31 picks could be and what why those teams may go in that direction.

Bob Quinn gives behind-the-scenes info on draft day.
Quinn told DetroitLions.com how he operates on draft day.

The Detroit Lions seemed to be making a concerted effort to be a little more open with the media. Earlier in the offseason The Athletic took a trip down to Alabama on a private jet with Matt Patricia. Shortly thereafter, they got to interview director of player personnel Kyle O?Brien.

Now, general manager Bob Quinn is letting us peek behind the proverbial heavily-guarded door to the draft war room. DetroitLions.com?s Mike O?Hara talked to Quinn about the draft day experience and how he handles the entire weekend.

Particularly interesting was Quinn?s process when the Lions are on the clock.

?Generally speaking, if you?re in the first round you have 10 minutes on the clock,? Quinn said. ?You wait at least five minutes, to see if the phone rings. Then you take a minute and probably 30 seconds to get the player on the phone and make sure he?s there talking, alive and ready to go. And then, you always want to give yourself a couple minutes of a buffer before the time goes off.?

The entire piece is definitely worth a read, just to give you an idea of what a war room is actually like during draft weekend.
