Detroit Lions - Team Notes

Jim Caldwell said Ameer Abdullah "is coming along" from shoulder surgery. Missed the spring. Is not on PUP so that's a good sign for him.

Jim Caldwell said the realistic expectation for the Lions is they will be better than last year. Wouldn't get into any grand predictions.?Also gave his consistent not worried about his job security.

Lions S Glover Quin, when asked on what happened if a younger guy wins the SS job: "It's not a day care, so I'm not sure how much babysitting there will be." Said he doesn't think his role would change much if that happens.

Lions S Glover Quin said his ankle is "good to go." He had ankle surgery in the offseason and was somewhat limited during spring workouts.

Lions WR Golden Tate said "there's a lot of plays" in the offense under Jim Bob Cooter. Said they are "still trying to learn this offense" and that they are all learning. He said Matthew Stafford "makes him want to be a better player."

Golden Tate said he has to learn to continue to play smarter as he learns more about concussions and brain injuries. Felt he protected his head from hits last year, but not as much the ground. Needs to work on it.

Lions WR Golden Tate would still be interested in punt returns: "I'd like to be on punt return. I enjoyed it." He did it early in his career and again last year.

Matthew Stafford believes he has a good comfort level with the Jim Bob Cooter offense and it is totally different from offense last year.

Matthew Stafford said he doesn't worry about contract stuff. If he plays well, the rest takes care of itself. Could be up for massive extension after the season.
