Detroit Lions - Team Notes

https://www.profootballfocus.com/nfl-power-rankings/
The Pro Football Focus Power Rankings are based off of Senior NFL Analyst Sam Monson’s ordering of all 32 NFL teams, offenses, and defenses.
Monson uses PFFF’s overall cumulative grades as a starting point and makes necessary subjective adjustments to account for things that aren’t captured in the grading, such as injuries.
The PFFF Power Rankings will be updated every Tuesday morning during the NFL season.

Rankings heading into Week 17 – Updated 12/27/2016

Lions DT Stefan Charles exited Week 16 against the Cowboys with a knee injury.
Charles was spotted with his right knee in a big brace after the game, suggesting he is dealing with a serious knee injury. An important member of a quality interior line rotation, losing Charles would be a blow to the defense.

Theo Riddick (wrist) ramped up his "side work" last week.
Riddick has been sidelined since Week 13 and has not practiced in the last two weeks. Losers of their last two and in danger of falling out of the playoffs, the Lions could certainly use Riddick Sunday night against the Packers. Zach Zenner started against the Cowboys on Monday night and could get the nod again if Riddick sits.

December 28, 1952 - the Lions defeat the Cleveland Browns to win the NFL title.
Doak Walker’s 67-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter gives the Lions the cushion they need.

December 28, 1997, the Lions are defeated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the NFL Playoffs, 20-10.
Detroit quarterback Scott Mitchell is held to just 78 yards passing by the Bucs stingy defense.
It’s the Lions fourth loss in the first round of the playoffs in the last five years.

Tied with Green Bay entering the fourth quarter on December 28, 2008, the Lions go on to lose 31-21, finishing a season of futility. They become the first team to go 0-16 in NFL history.
Coach Rod Marinelli and President Matt Millen biggest shithead, both lose their jobs after the season.

UConn Hires Edsall To return As Coach From NFL’s Lions.
CBSDetroit

Edsall is in his first season as the Lions' director of football research and special projects, a mysterious position that helps with clock-management issues and other projects that Caldwell never has fully explained.

Edsall is close with Lions general manager Bob Quinn, considered Quinn a confidant when the latter worked as an equipment assistant at UConn, and helped push Quinn to his first NFL job with the New England Patriots.
