Golden Tate hoping for a contract extension.
In light of Julian Edelman’s new contract, Golden Tate hopes he’s next.
On Thursday, the New England Patriots handed receiver Julian Edelman a brand new two-year extension. The deal was relatively cheap—two-years $11 million plus $4 million in incentives—but it still caught the eye of Golden Tate, especially after Pro Football Focus posted this:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DB1GrnoXkAENqrB.jpg
Contract extension agreed between the Patriots and Julian Edelman. He ranked 5th in missed tackles forced among WRs since 2014. Leader is Golden Tate.

Tate is currently on the third year of a five-year, $31 million contract signed back in 2014. His base salaries for the next two seasons are $6 and $7 million, with cap hits of $8.35 and $9.35 million respectively.
While a deal is unlikely to get done this offseason, an extension would make sense in 2018. The Lions could theoretically lower that cap hit, while locking up Tate for another few years.
Only 4 receivers have over 90 catches the past 3 seasons: Odell Beckham, Antonio Brown, Demaryius Thomas and .... Golden Tate.

LIONS' DECKER OUT 4-6 MONTHS.
Detroit will be without starting LT Taylor Decker to start the 2017 season, as his shoulder injury turned out to be a torn labrum, per NFL Network. The timetable for his recovery is four-to-six months, which could cause him to miss anywhere from four-to-12 games. The former first-round pick played every snap at LT for the Lions last season.

One a scale of 1-10, this news is about a five; starting the season on PUP would mean Decker sitting at least the first six weeks of the year.
But being placed on the IR-return list would be even worse, holding him out until at least Week 8.
