Detroit Lions - Team Notes

Detroit Lions Podcast Episode 142 ? Lions Coach Busy At The Super Bowl. 98 minutes.

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case are joined again by Jeff Risdon and while the Lions season is over, there?s still plenty to talk about.

We start the show talking about Darius Slay and the fact that he was ?named? to be the number three cornerback in the league. There?s plenty to be contentious about here, not that we don?t love Darius, but Bleacher Report?s methodology is a bit whacked out here.

We also spend some time discussing TJ Lang and his push into the Pro Bowl. There are a few questions about what this means, and how good the selection process is. Unfortunately, it seems that the process is still broken and that we are still a few years off from stacking the team with Lions

While on the topic of Lions coaches, we work through the idea that Matt Patricia is already letting coaches go. Its a classy move in the end, but is still strange for a guy who isn?t hired yet to be firing members of the staff. We talk a bit about if Matt Patricia flakes on us, and that is a conversation that doesn?t end well for anyone..

We also start our draft season talk with the Riz?s breakdown on what he saw during the practice week in the run-up to the Senior Bowl. Riz also starts talking about the Lions draft needs after publishing his first mock draft on the Detroit Lions Podcast website.

Of course, Case does his thing and takes us around the division with our old school bass drop.

The Detroit Lions officially removed the following assistant coach profiles from their team website: - Brian Callahan, Kris Kocurek, Tony Oden, Bill Sheridan, Alan Williams.

Patricia called the Lions' assistants last week to talk about their futures with the franchise.

More on Paul Pasqualoni: His name was buzzing in Mobile, based on his past relationship with Matt Patricia. They haven?t spoken yet, but are expected to ? about a senior position on the staff ? when the #Lions officially hire Patricia.

The bios of most of the Detroit Lions' defensive staff (DL coach Kris Kocurek,
LB coach Bill Sheridan, CB coach Tony Oden, S coach Alan Williams) have all been removed from the team's website -- likely indicating they won't be retained by the new staff. This change was first reported by the Detroit News.
Of those who had their bios removed, Oden was the only one in question. Kocurek has already landed a new job in Miami as a defensive line coach.
Most of the offensive staff still has bios up, including OC Jim Bob Cooter,
RB coach David Walker, WR coach Robert Prince and TE coach Al Golden.
Special teams coordinator Joe Marciano also has his bio still on the site along with his assistant, Devin Fitzsimmons.

Detroit Lions Breakdown Podcast Episode #47: The Coaching Purge has Begun. 53 minutes.

Matt Patricia is still not yet the head coach, with the Patriots headed to the Super Bowl, but heads have begun to roll in the coaching department. The Senior Bowl is coming up this week and the remaining Lions coaches will have their eyes trained there.

TJ Lang has been named as an injury replacement to the Pro Bowl.

Bleacher Report has been having their continuing series on the NFL 1000, with Darius Slay being the #3 ranked CB.

There are only 2 head coaching vacancies left.

There are five remaining Lions assistants that are representing the team at the Senior Bowl (Al Golden, Robert Prince, Delvin Fitzsimmons, Evan Rothstein and Payton McCollum).

The team has let go of QB coach Brian Callahan, LB coach Bill Sheridan, CB coach Tony Oden and S coach Alan Williams.

Erik addresses the rumors of future Lions assistants.

Joe and Erik review Jeff Risdon?s latest Mock Draft.

A slew of questions concerning Matt Patricia.

The second pile from the mailbag is full of questions surrounding players the Lions will look to draft or sign during free agency.
