Detroit Tigers Team Notes

Tigers come home and change the look of this series with a 5-2 win over Rangers - Fister pitches a gem, and Tigers break out the HR power.

Rangers now lead best of seven series, 2-1. Tigers fell behind early, 1-0, when Rangers started game with 3 straight singles off Fister.

But then Fister settled down - and didn't allow 2 baserunners in an inning the rest of the way....he was terrific thru 7.1IP.

Tigers tied game on Martinez HR in 4th...took lead for good on Cabrera two-out RBI double scoring Jackson in the 5th, making it 2-1.

Peralta HR off Lewis leading off 6th made it 3-1...then Dirks singled, stole 2B, and scored on Jackson single to make it 4-1.

Cabrera capped scoring for #Tigers with towering HR to LF, off Uehara in the 7th...Rangers scored final run in 8th to make final 5-2.

Fister's final line: 7.1IP, 2ER on 7H (6 singles), 0BB/3K...6th straight start here (since trade) of 7IP+, 2ER or fewer...6ER total in 44IP

Benoit got final two outs in 8th...Valverde gave up dbl to Hamilton to start 9th, then got Young, Beltre and Napoli in order to end it.

Cabrera's two RBI hits - double and HR - both came on 0-2 pitches...Jackson had 3 hits (+RBI) equaling hit total from first 7G of postseason.

Jackson also scored run, which just about guarantees a win - since Sept. 2, Tigers now 16-1 when Jackson scores a run, 6-8 when he doesn't.

Scary moment on Martinez HR - he grimaced, circled bases gingerly, then threw helmet in frustratiion going down steps toward clubhouse...
...but an inning later he came back up, walked...then hit deep FB in final AB...appears he's okay.
