Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

January 27 in Tigers and mlb history:

1927: Citing accuser Dutch Leonard's refusal to appear at the hearings of January 5th, Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis issues a lengthy decision clearing Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker of any game-fixing charges. Landis orders the Philadelphia Athletics to reinstate Cobb and the Washington Senators to restore Speaker.
Both players are then made free agents. Philadelphia owner Connie Mack will sign Cobb on February 8th, and Speaker will sign with Washington on January 31st for a reported $35,000.

1963 - John Clarkson, Elmer Flick, Sam Rice and Eppa Rixey are elected to the Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Rixey will die before the induction ceremonies that summer, marking the first time that a Hall of Famer passes away between the time of election and induction.

2006: The World Baseball Classic set its pitch limits and mercy rules, designed to protect pitchers in the early stages of spring training and cut short one-sided games.

“I am not saying he is Betancourt,” Avila said after speaking to the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association. “But you get a guy back that makes up for that loss. I am not comparing him, but at least we got a guy back for that loss.”
“Right now he’s a second baseman, but he can play second, shortstop, third base and left field,” Avila said. “He hits left-handed, he can run a little bit, he has a good arm and a little pop in his bat.”
Avila said the plan is for Eaves to begin the season at Double A Erie.

The Tigers were minus-107 in net runs gained by base running.
The next worst were the Dodgers at minus-71. The best baserunning teams, the Rangers and Diamondbacks were plus-142 and plus-110, respectively.

The Tigers made 60 outs on the bases last season including 25 at home. They were picked off 19 times. According to Bill James, the Tigers? differential between runs created and runs scored was an abysmal minus-76.

They went first to third just 73 times out of 321 chances, second to home 100 out of 183 chances and first to home 29 times in 75 chances. Only two teams (Dodgers and Orioles) took fewer bases than the Tigers (130).
