Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

May 4 in Tigers and mlb history:

1902 - George Mullin, a 5 time 20 game winning good Tigers pitcher, makes his big league debut.

1922 - Hall of Fame Tigers outfielder Harry Heilmann smacks his only career walk-off homer. It?s a doozy, too. With the Tigers trailing the Browns 5-3 and two on, he hits a three-run shot off Elam Vangilder.

1928 Ty Cobb becomes the second member of the 700-double club, joining Tris Speaker. All these years later only two have joined them: Stan Musial and Pete Rose.

1939 - In his first-ever at-bat in the city of Detroit, Boston Red Sox rookieTed Williams becomes the first player to hit a home run which totally clears the right field seats at Briggs Stadium.

1943 - National League President Ford C. Frick demonstrates that the revised balata ball is livelier than the previous year's ball by bouncing it on a carpet in his office. The major leagues have turned to the balata ball because of wartime restrictions on the supplies used to make standard baseballs.

2010 - Ernie Harwell, one of the greatest broadcasters in baseball history, dies at the age of 92 after a year-long bout with cancer. He was the radio and television voice of the Detroit Tigers for 42 years, retiring from the booth in 2002. He received the Ford Frick Award in 1981 and was a member of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame.

Tigers' Justin Verlander: Serves up yet another home run.
Justin Verlander was done after five innings Tuesday night against Cleveland, allowing eight hits, seven runs (seven earned), three walks and two strikeouts. He took the loss and is now 2-3 on the season.

He was knocked around in the first inning to the tune of 38 pitches, 28 of which were fastballs, and Cleveland went up 3-0 early. Verlander also allowed a home run, his seventh of the season, in just his sixth start -- that's a queasy pace for sure. He allowed just 13 in 20 starts last season and 18 in 32 starts in 2014. Verlander's propensity to serve up taters has us concerned. There's always a point in a pitcher's career where his velocity drops a bit and he's forced to rely on his secondary stuff. But we thought Verlander had already gone through that. This could be the next drop in his game, but we're not prepared to declare that at this point.

Tigers' Anibal Sanchez: Hoping mechanical adjustments will halt poor start to season.
Anibal Sanchez has made some mechanical adjustments to his game that he hopes will halt his poor performance early this season, reports the Detroit Tigers ' Official Web Site.

Sanchez revived the hip turn in his delivery and implemented it before his last start, but he struggled to find a consistent groove and allowed seven walks and nine strikeouts over 5.2 innings of three-hit ball. Still, there was a measure of hope in that game despite the walks and Sanchez will focus on continuing to improve his game Wednesday against Cleveland.
