Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

November 12 in Tigers and mlb history:

1920 - Owners unanimously elect Kenesaw Mountain Landis chairman for seven years. The owners' action comes in direct response to the Black Sox Scandal, which threatens the integrity of the game. Landis accepts, but only as sole Commissioner with final authority over the players and owners, while remaining a federal judge (with his $7,500 federal salary deducted from the baseball salary of $50,000).

2013 - Detroit pitcher Max Scherzer is named the winner of the American League Cy Young Award. Scherzer was 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA and 240 strikeouts in 2013.

2014: The Tigers acquire OF Anthony Gose from the Blue Jays in return for prospect Devon Travis.

A number of years ago, I had the pleasure of interviewing Frank Howard. The erstwhile slugger was personable and humble. He was also honest. Here is an excerpt from our conversation:

DL: One of your best games as a Tiger came in 1973. You went deep twice before Eddie Brinkman hit a walk-off home run in the ninth inning.

FH: ?I didn?t hit two home runs that game. Who did we play? When was it??

DL: It was July of 1973 against the Red Sox You hit a pinch-hit home run in the sixth, stayed in the game, and went deep again in the eighth.

FH: ?I didn?t know that. But you guys with the stats have all the numbers.?

DL: Is the ball you hit over the left-field roof at Tiger Stadium the longest home run you ever hit?

FH: ?I?ve hit baseballs a lot further than that. That one probably only traveled 530-540 feet, and I think I hit about half a dozen of them well over 600 feet.?

Playing for the Dodgers, Senators, and Tigers from 1958-1973, Howard hit 382 home runs and had a 142 adjusted OPS.

Fangraphs

In 2012 ? the year he won the Triple Crown and the MVP ?
Miguel Cabrera slashed .356/.424/.580 with RISP.
With two outs and RISP, he slashed .420/.491/.720.

SHOULD TEAMS LOOK AT KINSLER?
Ian Kinsler, who will turn 35 in June, has been a bargain for the Tigers at the rate he's producing. But for teams needing a strong second base addition, he might be worth the look.

November 14 in Tigers and mlb history:

1946 - Ted Williams of the Boston Red Sox wins his first American League Most Valuable Player Award. Williams had hit .406 and led the league in home runs in 1941, but had lost the MVP race to Joe DiMaggio of the New York Yankees. He won the Triple Crown a year later, but lost the MVP to Joe Gordon of the New York Yankees. This time, Williams beats out Detroit Tigers ace pitcher Hal Newhouser, a two-time winner of the MVP award who finishes second in the balloting.

1957 - Milwaukee Braves outfielder Hank Aaron is named National League Most Valuable Player with 239 votes. Stan Musial of the St. Louis Cardinals is a close second with 230, and his teammate Red Schoendienst finishes third with 221.

1961 - John Fetzer's purchase of the outstanding one-third interest in the Detroit Tigers makes him sole owner of the club.

2006 - Justin Verlander becomes the fourth Tiger to win the Rookie of the Year Award. Verlander went 17-9 with a 3.63 ERA in 30 starts as a rookie, also starting Game One of the World Series. He joins Harvey Kuenn, Mark Fidrych, and Lou Whitaker as members of the Tigers to win the award.

2012: Free agent OF Torii Hunter signs a two-year, $26-million contract with the Detroit Tigers.

2013 - The MVPs in the two major league circuits are both clear-cut picks: Andrew McCutchen gets 28 of 30 first-place votes in the NL and Miguel Cabrera 23 in the AL. Cabrera led the 2013 AL in average, slugging, OBP and OPS, was second in homers and RBI to win his second straight AL MVP.
