Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

While Tigers general manager Al Avila is not under orders to decrease payroll, one major league executive told Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe that the franchise is nonetheless aiming to do that.
?The Tigers are a willing trade partner because they?re trying to get rid of payroll,? the executive commented.
It?s possible Detroit?s alleged motivation to cut spending will lead to a trade involving second baseman Ian Kinsler, whom the Dodgers could target.
?Kinsler is still a top player and he only has two years remaining on his deal,? observed the exec.
The 34-year-old is due $11MM next season and, barring a $5MM buyout, another $10MM by way of a club option in 2018.

Jesse Burkett holds the record for career inside-the-park (ITP) home runs with 55.
The AL career ITP home run record belongs to Ty Cobb (46),
while the NL record goes to Tommy Leach (48).

Known for power (not speed), Babe Ruth had ten inside-the-park home runs and ten steals of home;
while teammate Lou Gehrig has ten inside-the-park homers and 15 steals of home.

Sam Crawford holds the single-season record for inside-the-park home runs, with 12 ITP home runs (of his NL-leading 16 dingers for the Reds in 1901. Fifty-one of Crawfords 97 career home runs stayed in the park.
As you might expect, the AL record for a season (9) belongs to the
Tigers? Ty Cobb. In 1909, he led the AL with nine homers and all nine were inside-the-park. Overall, 46 of Cobb?s 117 home runs were of the ITP variety.

January 17 in Tigers and mlb history:

1952 - Detroit Tigers owner Walter Briggs dies at the age of 74. His son will succeed him in the presidency.

1970: The Sporting News names San Francisco Giants outfielder Willie Mays as its "Player of the Decade" for the 1960s. Mays beats out the likes of Hank Aaron in the voting.

1970: Major league teams select a record 357 players in the January phase of the annual free agent draft, including top pick Chris Chambliss, by Cleveland, and Chris Speier. Fred Lynn, drafted by the Yankees in the first round, will not sign.

2008 - Major League Baseball owners unanimously vote to extend commissioner Bud Selig's contract through the 2012 season. The contract extension will make Selig baseball's second-longest-serving commissioner, behind only Kenesaw Mountain Landis. The vote comes in a week when Selig has been criticized by the U.S. Congress for not cracking down hard enough on steroids.

2012: Bad news for the Tigers as they learn that DH/C Victor Martinez suffered a torn ACL during off-season training and is likely lost for the season.

MLB trade rumors: Tigers ‘in touch’ with Gregor Blanco, Peter Bourjos, not close to deal.
The Tigers are still searching for an upgrade in center field, it seems.

The Tigers should go all in, and Cameron Maybin might regress.
Some pundits think the Tigers should push their chips in for a shot at a title in 2017.
One of the main reasons the Detroit Tigers have struggled over the last couple seasons is a severe lack of depth.
http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2017/1/16/14288466/tigers-rumors-kinsler-martinez-wild-card-trade
The Tigers should stop waiting around and just go for it.
While they wait to see if anyone will pony up for Ian Kinsler, the Tigers are losing what might be their last chance at a championship.
MLBDailyDish

Injuries to players like Miguel Cabrera, Justin Verlander, Victor Martinez, J.D. Martinez, and others have hampered the Tigers? playoff chances.
With little depth in the farm system behind those stars, the drop-off in production has been staggering.
Unfortunately, the subpar farm system and bloated payroll have left the Tigers in an unenviable position. They have spent most of the offseason looking to cut payroll, and are hesitant to add more salary heading into 2017.

However, that is not the only direction they can take. Mike Bates of MLB Daily Dish argued that the Tigers should push their chips in once again, and make one last push at owner Mike Ilitch?s coveted World Series title.
Justin Verlander isn?t getting any younger, after all, and the AL Central is projected to be a one-horse race.
If the Tigers can outperform their projections -- FanGraphs has them at 82-80 and other publications won?t be far off ? they could sneak into the playoff hunt.

There isn?t a clear-cut answer here. This offseason?s free agent class was as thin as we?ve ever seen, and the market is now so thin we?re talking about Michael Bourn as a potential signee.

UPTON AMONG MLB'S BEST LEFT FIELDERS.
Despite his inconsistency in his first season with the Tigers, Justin Upton continues to have stretches in which he can have a major impact (18 homers in his last 37 games in 2016).

Where does he rank on Buster Shitheads list?'

WILL DANIEL NORRIS STEP UP IN 2017?
The Tigers would love for Norris to break out the way Michael Fulmer did last year. Matt Boyd could also take it up a notch, but Norris has better stuff and upside.
