Contrary to many large, backloaded contracts, Fielder's nine-year deal is structured so that he'll earn $23MM in each of the first two years, and $24MM in each of the seven years thereafter, according to the Associated Press (via ESPN).
Fielder's deal also includes a limited no-trade clause, tweets Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.
Fielder's agent, Scott Boras, told Jim Bowden on MLB Network Radio that he did not receive an offer from the Tigers on Prince until after news broke of Victor Martinez's season-ending knee injury .

Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski said Detroit is "most likely" out of the running for free agent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, although he cautioned that "you never can tell," tweets Jason Beck of MLB.com.
The Tigers might still sign another pitcher, tweets Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com, although it would likely be on a minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training.

Tigers manager plans to put Cabrera at hot corner regularly.

"The plan right now," Leyland said, "is to have [Austin] Jackson lead off, [Brennan] Boesch second, Cabrera third, Prince fourth, Delmon [Young] fifth, [Alex] Avila sixth."
Take the aforementioned top six, then add Jhonny Peralta seventh, a left-handed hitter such as Andy Dirks or Don Kelly batting eighth, and then Ryan Raburn hitting ninth, and the Tigers alternate left- and right-handed hitters throughout the order. They lose a switch-hitter with Martinez out, but they gain power, not just for home runs.

At this point, I'd be surprised if @Jacob_Turner22, Below, @AdamWilk58 or @SmylyD doesn't end up winning #Tigers rotation spot.

1927: Citing accuser Dutch Leonard's refusal to appear at the hearings of January 5, Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis issues a lengthy decision clearing Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker of any game-fixing charges. Landis orders the Philadelphia Athletics to reinstate Cobb and the Washington Senators to restore Speaker. Both are then made free agents. Philadelphia owner Connie Mack will sign Cobb on February 8, and Speaker will sign with Washington on January 31 for a reported $35,000.
