Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

February 19 in Tigers and mlb history:

1889 - A tour of baseball players led by John Ward stages its first game in Europe, playing in Naples, Italy.

1953 - Ted Williams safely crash-lands his damaged Panther jet after flying a combat mission in Korea. The plane was hit by enemy fire.

1970 - Commissioner Bowie Kuhn announces the suspension of Detroit Tigers ace Denny McLain, effective April 1st, for McLain's alleged involvement in a bookmaking operation. The suspension will last three months, setting off what will basically be a lost season for the two-time Cy Young Award winner.

Detroit Tigers would fetch princely sum if Ilitch heirs sell.
Freep

If the Tigers ever are sold, the buyer would likely not be another individual such as Mike Ilitch. That is because the price tags on professional sports teams have shot up so high, they're beyond the reach of all but the upper echelons of the top 1%.

Rapkoch of Sports Value Consulting said the more common buyer of teams these days is a small group of people who take various ownership stakes. The group is typically fronted by a person or persons with majority stakes.
"The day of having one individual owner is probably gone ? unless they have really deep pockets," Rapkoch said.

What if there was a sale of the Tigers?
Major League Baseball ultimately would need to approve any sale of the Tigers.
Potential bidders and their investors would be vetted by the league.
A finalist would then need the recommendation of MLB's ownership committee.
The final step would be an affirmative vote from three-quarters of the 30 clubs.

Four veteran Umpires of the thankless craft are calling it a career.
Bob Davidson, John Hirschbeck, Jim Joyce, and Tim Welke all retired over the offseason.
Replacing them as full-time MLB umpires are Adam Hamari, Pat Hoberg, Gabe Morales, and Carlos Torres.

Ryan Raburn agreeing to sign with the Reds reminded me that back in the 1970s the Rangers had a minor league righty named Rayburn Rainbolt.
