Tigers | Steven Moya placed on waivers
Detroit Tigers OF Steven Moya was placed on outright waivers Wednesday, March 29.

BHQ take: Moya joins journeyman Alex Presley as losers in the DET OF competition, with corresponding PT increases for JaCoby Jones, Mikie Mahtook and Tyler Collins. With RF J.D. Martinez sidelined by injury, Jones seems likely to open the season in CF, with LHB Collins and RHB Mahtook likely platooning in RF. Jones offers an intriguing speed/power blend. His MLEs are unimpressive, suggesting his contact challenges will produce a potentially unrosterable average. Both Collins and Mahtook struggled in 2016.
Like Jones, Mahtook is contact challenged, though he has shown at least moderate pop and speed. Collins also has good Spd, though his below-average RSpd shows he seldom runs enough to utilize it. He has less power than Jones and Mahtook, though he makes contact at a higher rate. The trio's xBAs suggest all are BA liabilities. The OF composition upon Martinez's return is somewhat unclear, though Jones seemingly has an opportunity to claim a regular CF job if he performs well out of the gate, which could squeeze Mahtook and Collins.
Impact: High
