Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

April 1 in Tigers and mlb history :

1942 - Major league owners decide not to allow furloughed players in the military to play for their clubs if based near a game site.

1962 - The Detroit Tigers sign University of Detroit basketball star Dave DeBusschere. He will pitch effectively in 1962 and 1963 with the Chicago White Sox, but will gain much more notoriety as a key member of the New York Knicks' NBA championship teams of 1970 and 1973.

"What I'm telling you is that we don't definitely have any trades in place," said Tigers manager Jim Leyland to MLB.com's Jason Beck. Detroit appears to be taking as much time as possible before announcing their final roster moves.

Tigers name LHP Drew Smyly fifth starter. He will make his MLB debut on April 12 against the Rays.
Drew Smyly was just told by Tigers officials that he has won fifth starter job.
"I am speechless," Smyly said.

Duane Below, Smyly's final competitor for the fifth spot, was optioned to Triple-A Toledo this morning. So was reliever Brayan Villarreal.

Tigers don't need fifth starter immediately. Smyly was told he will make one start in minors before big-league debut.

Tigers will start the season with one extra position player until Smyly called up.
So just one of Worth, Inge, Thomas, Dirks will be cut.

Tigers coach Tom Brookens has felt this feeling before.
"It feels kind of like '84. A team that came close the year before, a great vibe in the clubhouse, a real sense of purpose."
Tigers first base coach Tom Brookens, describing the current team in the Monday edition of ESPN The Magazine.

On deck for the Tigers:

Mud Hens
NOON WEDNESDAY
The Tigers get a rare chance to face their Triple-A affiliate on Wednesday. In the exhibition finale, the Tigers and Toledo Mud Hens square off in Ohio a day before Opening Day, just to make sure everything is all set for the start of the 2012 season.

Red Sox
1:05 THURSDAY
Opening Day should have as much buzz as any in recent memory. The expectations are sky-high and everyone will be curious to see what Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder produce in their first game hitting back to back. Oh, and the defending AL MVP and Cy Young winner -- Justin Verlander -- will be taking the mound.
