Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

After Max Scherzer's 15 Ks today...Elias Sports: This is the first time Tigers pitchers have had 12 or more strikeouts in 3 straight games.

Max Scherzer became just the 2nd AL pitcher ever to K 15 batters while pitching no more than 7 IP. The other? Mike Mussina on 9/24/2000.

Tigers pitchers combined to fan 17 Pirates batters Sunday, just the fourth time since 1918 the club has recorded 17 or more K’s in a nine inning game.

and with thanks to Jas5lf with this from the game thread...
All 15 of his strikeouts were swinging, making him only the second pitcher to fan 15 or more batters, all swinging, since 1988.
Scherzer’s rate of 11.65 strikeouts per nine innings is tops in the majors and his 63 combined strikeouts is only five fewer than the league leader, Justin Verlander.

May 21 in Tigers history:

1967: Earl Wilson gives Detroit its third straight win over the Yankees, 9 - 4. Mickey Mantle hits his 5th homer in six games but it's not enough for Whitey Ford, who appears in his last major league game.

Tigers 4, Pirates 3: Max Scherzer earned the pitching silver medal for this series, with a career-best and MLB season-high 15 Ks in 7 IP. The record is 16 for an appearance of 7 IP or less, done 6 times by 3 pitchers (Randy Johnson 3, all in 2001; Jake Peavy 2; Cliff Lee).
Austin Jackson missed his 4th straight game. He?s hitting .331/.414 (162 OPS+) with 29 Runs in 36 games.
Tigers and Indians will meet for the first time this year in Cleveland starting Tuesday. Detroit has won 10 straight over the Tribe.

3. Tigers-Indians should be a rivalry. The cities are close, and the teams play in the same division. But they've basically never been good at the same time, so they've basically never had a late-season series that was meaningful for both teams. Maybe this is the year that changes. And maybe, with Detroit in town for a series that includes Tigers at Indians, Thursday afternoon (12:05 ET) at Progressive Field, this is the week that Indians fans start noticing their team. Maybe they just show up to boo closer Chris Perez, who ripped Indians fans for booing him -- and for failing to show up. "Nobody wants to play in front of 5,000 fans," he told reporters. Everybody should want to see Justin Verlander, who starts Thursday against Justin Masterson.
