Despite inconsistencies, pitchers missing bats.

Tigers racked up double digits in strikeouts for the 11th time in their first 40 games. That's a first for them since at least 1918, as far back as game-by-game records go.
As streaks go, the Tigers' mark of 10 straight games with eight or more strikeouts is also their best strikeout stretch since at least 1918.

Another special pitching performance at Comerica: Scherzer strikes out 15 - all swinging - and Tigers take series from Pitt. with a 4-3 win.

Scherzer K'd at least 2 in each of first 6 Innings, recorded seven consecutive outs on strikes from 3rd thru 5th...live Fastball, electric changeup.

Scherzer 1st Tigers pitcher in 40 years to K 15...Lolich was last to do it - in '72. Lolich holds team record with 16 - which he did twice in '69.

Tigers K'd 41 in this 3 Game series...now have 353 strikeouts in 365 Innings Pitched - 8.7K/9, best in American League. The League average is 7.1K/9.

For all of his Ks, Scherzer left game in 7th trailing, 2-1. But Tigers rallied for him in bottom 7th. Fielder started inning with a bloop double to Leftfield.

Young singled him home to tie game at 2. After walk and passed ball, Tigers had runners at 2nd and 3rd for Avila, who had 5 Hitsin his last 44AB...
Avila hit Groundball just past Barmes to score both runners, and give Tigers a 4-2 lead. Benoit gave up run, but closed game for his 1st save.

Young had good swings all weekend - finished 5-11 with HR and 4RBI. Peralta accounted for other run today with 2nd HR - into front row in RF.

One more strikeout note: Tigers had had 16 Games with 14 Strikeouts or more in history before today - Mickey Lolich had HALF of them - 5 with 14, 1 with 15, 2 with 16.

Tigers are now 20-21...finish homestand 2-3....now head on the road for ten games, starting with 3 in Cleveland.

Matchups for Indians series: Porcello vs. Jimenez Tuesday, Doug Fister vs. Zach McAllister Wednesday, then Verlander vs. Masterson Thurs afternoon.
