Tigers take 3 of 4 from Rays in St. Pete...take finale, 5-3. Jackson delivers another big hit, and bullpen protects 2R lead w/ 4 shutout IP.

Smyly no-hit Rays thru 4 inn., but game was tied, 1-1, going to 5th. Tigers loaded bases, Young and Avila both had SF, Tigers took 3-1 lead.

But Rays came back, first 3 hits of game produced 2 runs, and tied game at 3. But #Tigers came back back in the 6th...

Don Kelly led off 6th w/ double, Santiago bunted him to 3B, and Jackson brought him home w/ single thru drawn-in infield...Tigers led, 4-3..

With 2 outs, and facing tough leftie McGee, Fielder then delivered RBI single to give Tigers 5-3 lead...bullpen took over, and was superb..

Villarreal K'd side on 12 pitches in 6th (now 39K in 26IP), Coke, Benoit, and Valverde closed it out - 4IP total, 2H, 0R, 0BB/6K for pen...

Rays lead AL in walks - but Tigers only walked 5 Rays hitters in the 4 Games, while striking out 35....allowed just 25 hits...

Tigers finish tough road trip 5-5....now go home for 14 of next 17 Games...starts w/ 4 Game series with the suckasstwins tomorrow...

Pitching matchups for Twins series: Fister v. Hendricks, Scherzer v. Blackburn, Verlander v. Duensing, and Porcello v. Diamond Thurs afternoon.

Every few weeks I have given all of you an explanation of sorts with being late or gone from this team notes thread and the other daily threads with the health of my elderly mother.
Yesterday during the forums outage her doctor explained to me the situation as it is and continues going forward. It doesn't look good for my mid eighties mom. When she is called, I will be gone for a 'significant amount of time', to tend to her wake and funeral and to close out her place of residence.

Since late December of 2006 to early this year, these daily threads have been so much enjoyment for all of us. These past few months with all that has happened, it has been a place of escape posting all I find on our Tigers.

I will be gone for the rest of today.
Kaline,
I lost my Dad 3 yrs. ago and I truly believe that he is in heaven with my brother. My Pastor told me that they experienced their final graduation. I hope your Mom is comfortable and if that time comes soon I will pray for your situation. God Bless.

Thankyou bdemil, and for sharing. It is never easy, for you, it is still close in your heart and mind with your dad. Mine is gone 21 years now, time does ease the loss. But mom is always mom to you, no matter how old you/we get. Your pastor said it well.
My dear old mom is being made comfortable, the entire hospital staff at RI Hospital from aides, CNA's, RN's, Doctors, specialists from every shift, in all departments are incredibly dedicated, and compassionate. I have been blessed to have her into my 60's. So many friends and relatives lost theirs at earlier ages, their moms and them.

July 2 in Tigers and mlb history:

1911 - Detroit pounds out a 14 - 6 victory over Cleveland as Ty Cobb, hitting in his 40th straight game, has three hits and three runs.

1956 - NBC pays $16.25 million for the Television and radio rights to the All-Star Game and the World Series. The players' pension fund will get 60 percent of the revenues.

1970: Detroit's Joe Niekro no-hits the Yankees until Horace Clarke singles in the 9th inning. The Tigers win, 5 - 0. This is the third time in the month that Clarke has broken up a no-hitter, having spoiled bids by Kansas City's Jim Rooker (June 4th) and Boston's Sonny Siebert (June 19th).
