Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

Tigers are above league average offensively from the SS and C positions, and also in the 7 and 8 spots in the lineup.

There have been many more chances to drive in runs in the 5 and 6 slots. DY and Boesch are much bigger culprits than AA, JP.

Tigers have outhit Chicago in the 1,2,3,4,7,8 and 9 slots, and at 1b,2b(w Omar), SS, 3B, LF (w Dirks), and CF. CHW is better at 5,6, RF,DH,C.

Young has driven in Cabrera 14 times, himself 13 times.

Miguel Cabrera is batting .355 w/ 27 doubles, 24 home runs and 82 RBI over his last 90 games.

Tigers with the most runners on 2nd and 3rd seem to be Cabrera (177( and Fielder (170).

Fister gave up 7ER in 3.2IP - he'd allowed just 9ER in last 7GS (1.52ERA). Bullpen has been shaky, but was good in this series.

Tiger's pen worked 11.1IP of scoreless relief in series - 3H, 2BB/8K. 2 good outings for both Benoit and Villarreal, who'd been struggling.

Peralta hit 5th for third time this week...he's driven in 7 runs in the three games...Tigers #5 hitters rank last in AL this year (by OPS).

Avila on 5-4 run lead: "You’re feeling pretty good. Once we put five runs up, I thought we were going to win this game without a doubt."

Fister: "It’s plain and simple. I just didn’t execute."

Fister: "I was very poor at making adjustments, and they hit some mistakes, and made me pay for it."

Fister on early run support, defense: "That’s all I can ask out of teammates, and I just let them down today."

Fister on health: "I felt fine, and just needed to go out and execute ... and just didn’t."

Fister hung a couple curves was trying to bury: "Again, just not executing. It’s just not getting the job done, and that’s all today was."

Tigers pitcher Doug Fister on poor outing vs. Orioles Sunday:

"It’s plain and simple. I just didn’t execute.

Orioles 7 - Tigers 5: Offense disappears after 1st inning, Doug Fister shelled.
from blessyouboystigersblog

The Tigers were 46-10 when scoring 5 runs or more this season. They're now 46-11. Bah.

The Tigers dropped their first home series since the Yankees took 2 of 3 in the first 3 days of June. Double bah.

With Fister on the mound with 2 outs the Orioles were 6-8 with 6 RBI. That's most of the game in a nutshell.
Tigers were just 1-8 with RISP. There's the rest of the game in a nutshell.
Rod Allen said on FSD's post game the entire game turned on the Tigers inability to turn a double play. It's become a broken record.

Baserunning outs plaguing Tigers.
Jhonny Peralta had the Tigers' lone hit with runners in scoring position on Saturday, and it resulted in Detroit's only two runs. But in the process, he also might have run the Tigers out of a bigger rally.

With his eighth-inning flare to right field, Peralta not only drove in the first runs off Pedro Strop since July 3, he turned what had been a 3-0 shutout bid into a one-run game. When he kept on going to second as right fielder Nick Markakis threw home, however, he became an easy target for first baseman Mark Reynolds, who cut off the throw and got Peralta caught up in a rundown.

"I thought the ball was going home," Peralta said. "I knew it was going to be a close play at home plate and everything, so I tried to make it to second base."

It wasn't something the Tigers were trying to push.

"Really, the general rule of thumb there is if the ball is low, you can't go, because it's a ball that can be cut," manager Jim Leyland said after Saturday's game. "If the guy air mails it and throws it high, then you go on to second. It was probably just a mistake in judgment on Jhonny's part, to be honest with you."

Asked about the philosophy of taking the extra base and sacrificing the out to make sure a run scores, Leyland said, "I think that's one of the most -- not in this particular case, I'm just talking in general -- one of the most misunderstood plays in baseball.

"When there's a confusion there, whether they're going to throw the guy out at home or not, years ago they thought, 'If you think they're going to throw him out at home, keep going.' I don't believe in that. You can't do that. You've gotta go by the way the ball's thrown."

According to STATS Inc., the Tigers have made 38 outs trying to take an extra base, third-highest among AL teams behind the Angels (42) and Rays (39) heading into play on Sunday.

Schlereth's rehab assignment going well.
Daniel Schlereth now has six innings of one-run, three-hit ball under his belt in his rehab assignment at Class A Lakeland after a hitless inning on Saturday night.

Schlereth, who is rehabbing from left shoulder tendinitis, started the game for the Flying Tigers and recorded a walk and a strikeout in his inning. He has allowed one hit over 3 2/3 innings in his last three games, but has walked five batters over that stretch.

With two weeks left in Schlereth's Minor League rehab assignment, the question is now whether and when he'll be promoted to pitch at one of the upper levels in the farm system. That's the next logical step if he has any chance of spending September with the big club.

Going well, because he is pitching pain free? It can't have anything to do with the 5 walks in 3 2/3 innings....that's about 12 BB per 9 innings.
