Detroit has so many bad contracts I don't know why anyone would want them.
Abdelkader - No trade clause, 7 years left at 4.2 mil cap hit. Currently paid 5.5 million. That is a hefty price for a third liner. Retain salary, get him to move his no trade clause, and maybe just maybe a team desperate for some physical play will take him. Won't happen as they obviously wanna make him the next Captain.
Glendening - Currently 600k, but next 3 years his new contract kicks in with a 1.8 mil hit. He is currently averaging 14 minutes a game which is third liner minutes, however, his still level is of an NHL 4th liner. He is solid on the PK, but shouldn't be playing more than 10 minutes a game.
DeKeyser - 5 more years after this season at 5 million a year. Additionally a no trade clause kicks in after this season. Paid as a top pairing D, playing top D minutes, but is NOT a top pairing D.
He is struggling defensively in his own end, almost every high scoring chance against its DeKeyser or Ericsson missing their assignment. He is looking exhausted playing 22 minutes a game, sadly Detroit dosen't have many options other than Marchenko who is bloody scratched.
Nobody will touch this cancerous contract unless he marvelously improves over the next few years which I don't see happening. He is a servicable 2nd/3rd line defensive D-man as long as he dosen't handle the puck in his own end cause its turnover central.
I've heard of hometown discounts, apparently, in Michigan it's take the team to the cleaners.
Miller - 1 million with 350k in performance bonuses. Is good contract for a 4th liner, that being said younger/faster options were available in the off-season to fill his role or even from minors. Is probably on the team because of his off-ice contributions and Holland might be reluctant to let him go even though his contract expires at end of season.
He could draw interest of a contender, but Holland would be reluctant to let him go. Probably will re-sign him for another year in off season.
Ott - 800k is perfect price for a 4th liner. If Detroit started unloading contracts Ott would draw considerable interest if he could get healthy.
Nielsen - 5 mil a year until he is 37 is a bit of a gamble (5 more years). No movement clause with a no trade clause. Won't be going anywhere. Wings overpaid a little bit at free agency but that's abound to happen. He's unlikely to break 50 points with Detroit.
Nyquist - 4.75 for 2 more seasons. If Detroit wanted to move there could be interest. I expected a bit more following his breakout season.
Vanek - 2.75 mil, UFA at end of season. Best contract on team could get a very nice return. He has been playing great for Detroit and sadly won't have the cap space to retain him.
Helm - 3.85 mil for 4 more seasons with a NTC. Given the NTC, don't expect him to move. His deal is front loaded so he is getting 5 mil a year right now. Here is why it's a bad deal; 1. He is injury prone 2. His main asset is speed which at 30 is going to decrease 3. His limited offensive skill limit his offensive input.
Short term contract is okay, long term could handicap the team.
Tatar - 2.75 mil, RFA at end of season. After Vanek, the easiest contract to move, should Detroit want to move Tatar. Just like Nyquist was expecting more production. Will be looking for 5+ mil on next contract. With limited cap space... perhaps it is time to move.
Mantha - 832k for another season. Keep at all costs, one of few bright spot in Detroit. That being said Mantha still draws interest. Not as much interest or value as he did when first drafted.
Jurco - 900k, RFA at end of season. I've been hoping for years Holland would trade this kid anywhere so he could actually have an NHL career instead of sitting in pressbox. Won't draw much interest.
Wings unlikely to qualify him. I predict his next team is Slovan Bratislava of the KHL. Which is too bad because he has NHL level skill.
Althanasiou - 623k, RFA at end of season. Has been great Detroit should keep him around, but if they really wanted to, could find a taker with ease.
Larkin - 925k for 1 more season. Hopefully he continues to grow and improve would be a shame to let him go. Is a top line talent.
Miller/Ott/Nyquist/Vanek/Tatar
I will finish off the D later, however, there is nobody there who will draw any attention.
