ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions signed receiver Kevin Ogletree just days before facing the Green Bay Packers, and Ogletree was able to make a small but immediate contribution.

Could receiver/tight end Dorin Dickerson do the same Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals (4-2)?

"He got up to speed pretty quickly," coach Jim Schwartz said. "We'll just see how it goes when we get to Sunday and who the best combination of 46 works out to be. He's in that mix."

Detroit signed Dickerson on Monday to take the place of receiver Patrick Edwards on the 53-man roster, as well as provide some depth at tight end with Tony Scheffler out.

Dickerson is a 6-foot-1, 226-pound hybrid who can play either tight end or receiver. He had nine catches 117 yards in 11 games last season with the Buffalo Bills.

"He's a little bit of both," offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said. "We had him in the Senior Bowl. ... We felt like he had that versatility then and our background with him there, and he played for (current Lions tailbacks coach) Curtis Modkins in Buffalo and Curtis had that background as well.

"It's a little early to say what his availability is going to be. We don't make that decision until Saturday night anyways, but he's picking up things quickly and he has a nice skill set as well. He can really run and he's big enough to handle the blocking that you ask of a tight end in that role. So we'll see."

Who gets more targets this weekend....

A a hybrid guy with no position picked up this week thst doesn't even know the playbook yet

B. A 2nd rd wr with no knees that we keep hearing is a important part of the offense and its his time to break out.

The focus will be on Broyles among others leading to a possible big day from Dickerson or Ogletree or Durham. It's not all about targets. Last week it was Durham and the Oline and Bush making plays. Green Bay game nobody did. Chicago everybody did.

Broyles could have a big game against Cincy this time. Durham had 83 yards and you hate him too hughes. Fauria is an undrafted TD machine (a little praise for Mayhew finding him?)

The Lions need 2 people per week to have big games. And they have plenty of options, usually its Calvin and one other. Who cares who the other guy is as long as its somebody every week.

The Green Bay game was more on the Oline having one bad game.

They all have plenty of opportunity in this offense. I don't hate Durham. ..I hate that he can't catch.

Hopefully its Dickerson that gets more catches. Last week Chandler tore up Cinci down the seam. Scheff was that guy but with him out we need someone to step in to that role.

Dickerson was a really good athlete at Pitt. I watched him quite about while he was here.

Broyles will probably do nothing this year, or at least not until nearer the end of the season. If it takes a normal (non Adrian Peterson) person a year to recover from an ACL, how long should it take to recover from 2 in 2 years? I think he was a risky pick, and I think that pick would have paid off if he hadn't gotten hurt last year. But he did, and now its a total crapshoot.

People here seem to act like he's either a great player or a complete bust. I think we will know next year what he really is. I'm leaning toward bust...

The 3rd option is disappointing player. That's my thoughts, the pick itself is just disappointing.

that's been my thought the entire time. even if he had 60 catches and 600 yards already this year the pick itself still would have been idiotic in my opinion. a 2nd rd slot wr coming off a tore up knee with Burleson, cj and titus infront of him.....just dumb. SO for him to ever get that stigma out of my head he had to overachieve....and he is doing the opposite.

My disappointment is that he's a 2nd round pick who hasn't done anything yet.

That was a quick turnaround. From "Lions coaches had said Dickerson was up to speed and was in the mix to play against the Bengals." to released in a matter of moments. I worry about our coaches.

Kinda what I was thinking. Sounded like he was destined for some pt this week.

That's because you still don't get the Broyles pick. I'm not trying to fight with you on this, i'm just trying to explain, ok? Here it is in a nutshell....

1. CJ is our #1 (obviously)

2. Titus gets drafted and has a solid rookie year. (uhoh, looks like we may have found our #2?) Burleson expendable maybe? His age? His contract?

3. Broyles gets drafted high. Lions staff 'hoping' his injury is a quick recovery. He recovers but has another setback on another knee...wtf? But he looks like he has skill, he sure as hell did in college. Keep him around and see, right?

4. Titus goes fn bananas ---------> Burleson re-ups --------> Broyles has to rehab. SHIT HAPPENS!!! lol

Bottom line, I don't think they had any intention of Burleson coming back. Not that he's shit because he's not, but I think they wanted the 2 young guns in Young and Broyles as Staff's #2 and #3. It wasn't a bad plan at all, it just hasn't worked out as planned. Nobody predicted Young would go postal and Broyles to get re-injured on a completely different knee. There's no fn crystal ball in this league, no "I told ya so" either because a trio of a healthy CJ, Young and Broyles would be awesome for the Lions.

That's my 2 cents...not proof, just my fn opinion.

The guy (Dickerson) was picked up off the street. Schwartz has some good words about him, he gets released, all of a sudden you worry?? WHY??!! Wtf are you so worried about?? It's not like he was paid a ton to come here, he's nothing special.

You're a fn trip...lol

I would have bet my mortgage that Dickerson never even saw the field. It's not a big deal.

In the words of the great Vince Lombardi : "What the hell is going on around here?!"

You should know better than to believe a statement from this front office or coaching staff. Did you buy the hype that Rieff was the right guard of the future crap? Smoke and mirrors always from Allen Park.

Anyone who believed Reiff was a RT in the NFL doesn't watch football anyways.

i never understood the dickerson signing anyways....hes the same mold of fauria (a TE that isnt that great at blocking) and id rather see what more fauria can do at this point.

understood tony , really i do .....BUT all that happened that you listed and hes still not getting PT or making anything happen when hes on the field. So for me....when the pick didnt make sense it the first place cause it seemed like a 2nd rd luxory pick when we had holes everywhere.....he would really have to be productive for me to come around on him...and its just not happening. Staffords doing a really good job of spreading the ball around now that CJ isnt 100%....Broyles should be making the most of his opportunities. He can be effective in this offense...were just still waiting to see it.
