Does anyone want Miles as coach?

Big ten doesn't allow oversigning in any sport
sec is different

you have to have an available scholarship when you offer

I think the SEC has adopted the 28 player cap the Big Ten used to go with anyway (I'm not sure what they do now.) It's not a matter of being afraid he'd try to oversign here, it's not wanting the kind of guy that would do that to a player.

Gulo, if you only had a choice between Brady Hoke and Les Miles, who would you want?

You're all liars. You would take a coach who doesnt know when players are injured over a coach who just wins? No way, you're all crazy

I would take Miles in a heartbeat. This has been the lowest point that I can remember in Michigan football. Protests, injured QB being sent back out, stadium half full, etc...

Well Miles is currently not winning enough to warrant being considered some type of saviour for UM football. Yes hr is winning more than Hoke and LSU woukd likely pound UM this year, but to not recognize LSU is currently in a decline is being silly. They are at best middle of the pack in their conference, which does not invoke much hope that he will turn things around at UM.

Better off staying with the known commodity of Hoke than change to Miles and go through more years of waiting for a coach to install their system. Hoke is still trying to get the talent he desires to fill out the roster, there are obviously still glaring holes but I think giving Hoke another year is preferable to bringing in Miles who is longer worthy of being on list of possible replacements due to all the things in this thread.

The question is giving the complaints about Hoke's team, I think he is gone

The question part is the AD situation

And agree Miles is not doing as well as a saviour

Zyx, the known commodity of Hoke is losing, a team that is absolutely clueless, a player who was thrown back onto the field with a concussion, and a fan base that is losing interest in a once proud program.

Miles is not doing well this year because at some point, coaches start to wear thin on a program. He's been there for a decade. Miles doesn't run an incredibly complex system. He does the same stuff Michigan is TRYING to do; power football, win in the trenches.

I don't think he would be able to do the SEC shady stuff if he was hired at Michigan. I also think he would behave a lot better as the coach in A2 because he played for Bo so he probably feels a lot more loyalty towards the school rather than LSU, and the Board and Pres would be all over him about what he can and can't do.

Assuming a guy is going to simply stop being shady seems a little risky, given the magnitude of the responsibilities here, no? After all, it's not like we're hiring him to mop the floors, or check parking passes.

Or are you one of those rare people that repeatedly fall for Nigerian email scams?

Of course it's risky. But as long as David Brandon is the GM, you aren't going to have a ton of options. Harbaughs won't come here. Who else will want to come to this place, knowing that the board and AD may not have your back? I think it's much more risky taking a flyer on some mid-level up-and-comer vs Les Miles. If Brandon can lure a guy like Mullen, then this is all null, but I doubt he wants to leave the SEC to come coach in this lousy conference.

This is not some wonderfully desired job anymore. Michigan has 0 cache left other than history and a big stadium.

You all make valid points. I am on path with Vic on this one. Except I would take Miles if Hoke is the only other option. Really if It isn't going to be John or Jim or Gruden, Miles would slide in there at #4 and probably the most realistic.

I know he is old and and UM would only get 5 years at best out of him, but it would be enough to correct the ship so the next coach, preferably a younger guy could step in and run it for 10-15 year and the transition would be smooth......I know not realistic

So two other names not being tossed around, Lou Holtz and Lee Corso! Bring them in.

I think coaching age is so overrated. Our fellow bball coach is older than Les Miles, and he has turned them into a juggernaut. The options are going to be real limited with Dave Brandon running the show. He won't hire anyone who will steal the spotlight.

In Miles defense, he always seemed like a "haha, yeah I cheated, you got me" kinda guy, rather than an evil man.

but none of us really know him personally.

some of the stories (like the one of him sneaking into an NBA press conference, claiming he was from The Michigan Daily, and asking Pat Riley a question) do make him seem likable. like the dodgy guy you want on your side.

the Gary Moeller's wife rumor, if true, is more concerning. he can't really keep his wild side under control, even in Ann Arbor.

That situation is different. JB wasn't hired when he was 60. He's been at Michigan since 2007.
