Stop saying things to the press. If you have an issue with go tell him directly. Don;t ever tell the media anything. It will always backfire on you.

These are the dog days of Detroit Tigers spring training, as we move toward the start of the exhibition season Friday.

But there was one bit of intrigue today, as yahoo.com posted a story quoting reliever Octavio Dotel as saying that third baseman and reigning American League MVP Miguel Cabrera isn't a leader.

The story said that Dotel was peeved that Cabrera refused Dotel's request to have team meetings after a few playoff losses last season.

"You have to step up and say something," Dotel told Yahoo!. "Miggy's more about his game. I don't see him as a leader.

"He didn't give me that support. So I didn't try no more."

Several Tigers briefly addressed the comments today in Lakeland, Fla.

"Over and done, move on," manager Jim Leyland said. "Great stuff.

"But that's what I mean when I say sometimes the less said, the better."

Dotel told the Detroit News that he apologized to Cabrera this morning.

"I didn't mean to make him mad," Dotel said. "I hope he's not upset. I didn't mean for those comments to come out that way. On the field, of course he's our leader. He's our horse."

Cabrera told the News he harbors no resentment toward Dotel: "No, no ? it's good."

Makes you wonder why he's been passed around the league like an ugly stepsister huh?

I'll give him credit for at least putting his name to the comments. At least he "manned" up and didn't hide behind anonymity.

Its stupid because he wasn't asked a question, he just threw it out there.

I don't have a problem with it. Cabrera needs to step up and be a leader off the field. I remember after a few playoff losses Cabrera disappeared and didn't address the media. He needs to take the control of the team and fire up the losers. Cabrera walks the walk, so he is allowed to talk the talk. Letting Avila be the media go to man isn't motivating anyone. Just my opinion...

Yeah, on top of all the other stuff that Cabrera does, you know, hit for a great average, drive in piles of runs, knock the ball over the fences, he should stop being so fucking lazy and play cheerleader to this team.

I mean MVP and Triple Crown, yeah nice...but come on, STEP THE FUCK UP MIGUEL!

Miggy is a leader by fucking being a stud. Doing it everyday. Some guys just put up numbers, Prince isn't vocal either. Hunter will help with the vocal part and Vmart. Dotel is a dumb shit.

Cabrera doesn't need to do any of those things.

No one was more quiet than Sweet Lou. He just played at a high level.

You got that wrong. You probably mean "the best player isn't always a "vocal leader".

He leads by example.

No...I meant that. The best player isn't always a leader at all. Some just go out and play....maybe Miggy is one of those guys.

Terry Foster was saying yesterday that he knows for sure that Miggy pulls guys aside and talks to them and gives them advice about hitting. He does it all the time. Everyone here remembers the 5 run 2 out extra inning comeback against the Indians last year and when they interviewed Miggy he made sure he pulled AJ out of the dug out and gave him all the credit. He is a leader and he certainly leads by example.

Miggy seems like he is always keeping the clubhouse loose. SF was joking around a lot during the world series last year. They were winning. When you lose people go into fan speak mode and want to blame losses on stupid things like "I saw him smiling in the dugout." I don't know why people think you need to run around yelling and looking mean or else you are not serious. And especially in baseball...you can't really make any physical contact with anyone so how does a ra ra speech help me go up there and get a hit or help me in the field when I have to wait for a ball to possibly be hit to me. Makes no sense. In baseball your stats lead by example....more than any other sport out there.

No kidding, "the guy smiled fk his MVP and TC season" '-). The only one that bothered me when he smiled though it was more of a smirk was Inge.

Yeah, it probably had nothing to do with the 999 other things that went wrong.
