With Houston and Quin on the roster, what should the Lions do at #5? Will they try and get Milliner if he is there? I think the best case scenario is to get one of the tackles at #5 and go DE or S in round 2. What do you guys think?

Milliner is a lock to us at #5....IF he makes it that far (I don't think he will). If he is gone, I think they take whoever they have rated higher between all the available T's and DE's.

Right now, I'd probably take Fisher if he's there. We haven't replaced Cherilus or resigned Backus yet, Reiff is being talked about as a probable guard replacement for Peterman instead of a tackle, and we're still looking at the prospects of Fox/Hilliard as a starting tackle and Raiola as the center. If we want Stafford to live through the season, we're gonna have to draft some offensive line help high in this draft.

I've said it a few times now, but my ideal draft right now would likely start with Fisher in the first and Margus Hunt in the second. I wouldn't be at all upset with us taking Milliner in the first though. For some reason, I think Mayhew is gonna piss everybody off and take a WR in the second though.

Backus doesn't need to be resigned.....he is on year two of a two year deal. Last I heard he hasn't said for sure IF he is coming back or retiring.

Why would a WR in the 2nd piss you off? You don't want our offense to get better?

Because we're still lacking a couple starting OL and DEs right now. I know we need some WR help too, but I'd rather we try to find somebody in FA to fill this role than to spend another high pick here.

IMO, its too early to draft a 2. If we needed a 1 I'd say yeah go get your WR but we have more important needs over a WR that high. I still say CB and DE are bigger needs. LT would always be a need so I don't see a WR getting picked ahead of those positions.

Is he? I swear the radio clowns keep talking about needing to resign him, so that's probably where my confusion is coming from. If he's already signed, I hope he comes back for another year then. He's been decent enough the past few seasons and that would really help out depth-wise until we can draft his replacement.

I hear ya.

But like it or not, this team NEEDS another WR. Reguardless of what our history of drafting WR is.....we still need one. Can you even FATHOM what would happen if CJ went down....especially BEFORE Broyles is back at full strength. Burelson, Thomas, Durham and Osgood would be our first 4!!!

That's TERRIBLE.

If we can grab one in FA....great.....but if we dont I am fine with taking someone at #37......especially if it's Tavon Austin (don't think he lasts that long though).

If someone goes. Why not take a QB or DT at 5 in case Staff or Suh goes down. WR is fine later I just think 2 is too high.

A #2 receiver is still a starter, that's why.

I just don't like the idea of grabbing someone later just to have another WR. I'm tired of rolling out CJ and a bunch of retards.

We need all the other positions you mentioned, no questsion, but my point was I would NOT be upset if pick #37 was a WR.

What about DHB? Is there any chatter of either him or Huff coming in for a visit? If we could get those two, then we could go OL at #5 and DE in round 2. I know we need a true shutdown corner, but I dont think Milliner is there unless we trade up (which would be stupid because we need all of our picks to shore up starters and depth).

Bush will help that. We still need DE and CB and could always use a OL. Let me put it this way, I think the Lions could get a very good WR opposite CJ in round 4. I don't think they need to get one in the 2nd round.

I've warmed up to Millner, but wouldn't mind a tackle either. Still not sure if one of the DEs is worth the 5th pick, think we could get the same talent at DE at 15. Millner or a tackle takes a position that the Lions have eternally had as a weakness and turns it into a strength.

The team made some real progress to our roster yesterday. I didn;t think they would be able to with the cap space they had, but they reworked some deals and had plenty of space to add some impact players and keep Houston.

What about that kid from the small school who impressed during pro day. As I recall be was like 6'1" 200lbs with sub 4.3 speed. Ideal numbers for #2 bit does come from small school. If he is projected in R3, I would be ok with him over Austin who I think is far more suited for slot, which we already have aplenty.

Unless we really think Durham is the real deal as #2.

As others have mentioned, I think Milliner is the pick as long as he is available. Say what you will about the line, but guards are available later in the draft (meaning Rieff can take over RT) and Backus isn't retired yet. Further, while we couldn't run block, the line didn't get Stafford killed in pass pro. Milliner has shutdown corner talent and skill. Putting him opposite Houston year one and cutting his teeth on #2 WRs is the best plan we could have for the present and future of our secondary.

To me, there's just too much DE talent (we could get a starter in round 2 or even 3 pretty easily) and too little separation between the top 5 or so DEs to go that way with the 5th pick.

I don't see myself being upset with any pick at the top, but given the talent and availability, I would go Milliner-LT (either)-DE (Ansah).

starting defense is still missing quality starters at: DE, OLB, CB, S

Offense could use: T, WR, G/C

So theres still quite a few holes to fill and if I was Mayhew id cover as many holes as I could. 3 different option in the first right now depending on whos there it seems:

1 Ansah DE
2 Trufant/Wreh-Wilson/Rhodes CB
3 Khaseem Greene/Jelani Jenkins OLB

1 Milliner CB
2 Hunt/Moore DE
3 Khaseem Green/Jelani Jenkins OLB

1 Fisher T
2 BPA CB Trufant/Wreh-Wilson/Rhodes
3 BPA DE Gholston/Okafor

Intersting players to watch for me are how far Barret Jones drops. Cyprien (S) is a dark horse in round 2 for me. Where Swearinger goes cause hes all over the map in mocks. Could be a steal if hes there in the 3rd or 4th.

My trade down scenario in rd 1 would be to target Vacarro if still in the top 10 or one of the 2nd tier cbs mid to late 1st.

1. Ezekiel Ansah DE BYU
2. Larry Warford G UK
3. J.J. Wilcox S Georgia Southern

I'll stick with my pre-combine mock for now (which in hindsight scooped McShay and Kiper), except I'd take Ryan Swope in the third. I think he may be the best receiver in the class when all is said and done and the guy is built for intermediate routes, wr screens. WR screens near the goaline is the in play in the NFL right now (outside of the read option which I think we tried running once last year with Stafford with epic fail results). For the record I think Joeckel, Fisher, Milliner are gone before 5 Milliner might have the best chance but the Eagles need DBs badly. Larry Warford is every bit the equal of Cooper and Warmack. The guy rag-dolled Shariff Floyd.

LOL. I'm pretty proud of my Round 1 pick. Pre-combine Ansah was going in the 15-20s and Moore and Werner were the top guys. The only thing that saddens me is that Warford may be off their board due to penciling our 1st round tackle there. Speaking of scoops here is a name you might be hearing attached to us at 5 in the future Lane Johnson. I have him = or a hair below Joeckel and Fisher.
