Fired.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced they have released head coach Chip Kelly.

"We appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward," owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement released by the team on Tuesday.

Pat Shurmur will take over as interim head coach for Sunday's Week 17 finale against the New York Giants.

Totally deserving. He not only couldn't put together a winning team, but he dismantled a pretty good team in the process.

I just don't get the timing. Why with one game to go and nothing left to play for?

USC needs an answer soon ;)

Rumor has it that Chip wants to stay in the NFL. This guy aint believing it...

They took the interim coach title of the Usc guy. ...would be a total dick move to fire him now. They'll give him a year.

In the meanwhile chip will coach a shitty desperate nfl team like Cleveland or the lions or more than likely a reunion with Mariota in ten. He will suck at it and go to usc in 2017.

Lions aren't desperate for Kelly...lol. But i did forget who i was talking to...

Kelly would be horrible for Detroit.

Mayhew was horrible for Detroit...we hired him.
Caldwell was horrible for Detroit...we hired him.
Lombardi was horrible for Detroit....we hired him.

Kelly is better than any of those 3....however I agree....hes not a great fit for us and should never be given GM power again at the NFL level.

I can't see Chip staying in the NFL. He is good for college, NFL defenses are just too good and fast for him to use his system. NFL teams caught up to it pretty quickly.

Chip Kelly is all the proof one should need that no matter how much we dislike our coach in Detroit it can always be so much worse. Chip Kelly completely ruined that team, he took a good team, completely decimated it and turned it into a piss poor joke. He did a really horrible job in Philly. It may take that franchise years to recover from that train wreck.

He had a good year 2 with that team with a shitty qb. His year 3 was pretty bad...so were a lot of coaches. If you put Shady and Foles on that team....they still suck. So while people like to point to those moves being his downfall....they wouldn't have effected the W/L column very much imo.

Caldwell had a piss poor year 2 with an established qb and destroyed an 11 win playoff team in 1 year. He got his GM, OC and team president fired by the midway point of the season. I think that's worse....

I take chip Kelly over Caldwell.....but they both suck lol.

Now, all of a sudden he wants the Cleveland or Titans job too? Who in their right mind would rehire this putz as a HC?

Completely agree, of course the browns could consider it they are just as inept as it gets...right there with us .lol...

We're nowhere near the trainwreck Cleveland is, man lol

I'm going by overall franchise history

Browns Playoff appearances =28
Lions 17

That's pathetic

For as inept as the Browns franchise has been I'd still make the aurgement that overall the lions have been slightly worse

Good friend of mine lives outside of Philly, huge Eagles fan.

He said several reports coming out that Chip barely spoke to players off the field, conveyed messages through a guy he brought from Oregon. Asked players to talk to same guy if they had an issue. Players felt the issues were never actually passed on to Chip.

Dude apparently thought he was still coaching in college apparently.
