This seems like it's being more common.

Last year the Padres sign Tatis to a 14 year $330M contract ($23.5M per year) after only 143 major league games.

Today, the Rays signed Wander Franco to a 12 year contract that guarantees him $185M with a max of $223M ($15.4-$18.6M) after only 70 major league games.

So, how would any of you feel if Green or Tork had a really good 100-160 game start...would you want the Tigers to lock them in for the next 12-14 years at a "reasonable" yearly salary?

The current collective bargaining ends 1 December. The key by the union moving forward is moving arbitration earlier and changing how service time is calculated so teams cannot keep from playing them to save money or getting the player to free agency earlier.

So yeah, teams are seeing the writing on the wall and are "protecting" their investments. In Wander's case, they get all his peak years and he will be but 32 when the deal ends. This is not like other long term deals that pays someone well past their prime (late 30s and up). Even Tatis is only signed through 34. Peak is 26-32. In both cases, they have demonstrated they can hit MLB pitching. If Tork and/or Greene demonstrate they can, sure, sign them to an Team Friendly extension.
