EJ Manuel benched vs Lions

Orton probably scares me less than Manuel. He's a great garbage time QB. Put up big points for me in fantasy in blow-outs. In close games he's garbage.

Yeah, I just hope we're not overlooking that offense. Plenty of weapons on that side.

I would honestly prefer Manuel.

Orton can manage a game, short passes for first downs. With an above average running attack they could potentially have nice drives and move the chains.

Good running backs that catch the ball well out of the backfield. It's no gimme by a long shot

This right here is what scares me. The Lions, from preseason game 1 through yesterday.....are terrible guarding RB out of the backfield. How many times did Geno have wide open RB with plenty of space to run???

He just couldn't get them the ball.....or they dropped it when he did. Spiller and Fred Jackson scare me a lot more than Ivory out of the backfield, and they can catch. We better shore that up or Spiller and Jackson might have 150 yds receiving between them.

Other than that, just keep everyone in front of the safties and we'll be ok. Buffalo has playmakers on offense.....but I don't believe Kyle Orton will be able to take advantage of them.

Oh, and I hate Jim Schwartz!!!

I'm not concerned. The D actually was more often in position to come up and make quick stop. Yes, a couple times they were not, but I'm sure they will put more emphasis on that in practice this week. Plus Orton is not as mobile as EJ so will be a much more static target, which helps the more aggressive Lions D.

EJ was in total meltdown mode after his game, smart move by Bills to let him collect himself.

I'm far more worried about Orton than Manuel.

The reason is simple.. we know Manuel has sucked for the Bills. We don't know that Orton won't have some kind of sudden Josh McClown style resurrection to his career that begins with us.

Pretty sure Orton was happy collecting a backup QB paycheck, without having to actually play. He may quit before the start of the second half.

How good is the Bills O-line? They were below average last year. I know they have a good LT in Glenn, but the rest are mostly unknowns to me (especially the rookie RTs, where their 7th rounder beat out their 2nd rounder). Should we expect the line to generate a lot of pressure?

Orton has never been a great QB to begin with, rather turnover prone and poor under pressure. Manuel is inaccurate as a thrower, but he had the threat of running to escape pressure from the middle (our strongest area of attack). Orton isn't going to do much with his legs, so the question is whether the D-line can get in his face or not. If we do, I'd expect a low scoring game from the Bills. If we don't, Orton can manage well enough to hit open receivers (something Manuel couldn't consistently do).

If im Austin....youre doing whatever you can to get pressure every down. Manuels escapability was one of the things that worried me about the bills game. Orton will be a sitting duck. Dline seems to play better at home too....hopefully they are hyped and blow Orton up. At the same time being overly aggressive can cause some running room...and spiller/Jackson are capable of taking advantage.
